I need advice on which is more suitable. I am more comfortable with papers that are calculative unlike all discursive papers like P5 and I had a tough time before crossing the hurdle of F8. This happens to be my last paper. Please advice me on which would be more appropriate. I would appreciate your help especially from all who have passed both papers for comparism purposes.
February 8, 2014 at 7:56 am #156592I failed my P6 in last sitting and now really tempted to try P5 although it is not an easy paper either.
I passed P7 in my first attempt although i ever faced hurdles in passing F8 previously.
i personally feel that P6 can be quite interesting as it is more like a standalone subject although it is an advanced level of F6.
Unlike P7, you need to retain your P2 , F7 and F8 knowledge which i suppose you need to spend a bit of time to refresh and revise again. in addtion, the pass rate for P7 is normally the lowest among the option papers. This could be an important consideration.
I suggest you do some reading on the materials for P6 and P7 to determine which is a suitable option for you.
February 8, 2014 at 8:12 am #156608I had the same problem as you. I used to hate f8 paper thats why i didnt choose p7 for optional paper in dec 2013 sitting and instead choose p6. I passed p6 but i must tell you its not all calculative paper the first question which came last time was almost theoretical. I wasnt happy with my p6 paper but Thank GOD i passed it
February 8, 2014 at 8:56 am #156647It is a difficult choice, but you need to go with the option that interests you the most and you feel most drawn to in terms of subject matter. Once you make up your mind, stick with it.
The only way to pass these exams is to do question after question after question, and keep reading around all the points. Read all the ACCA technical articles, again and again. Work at it every day, even if you only do one question.
Draw out a question planner, to make sure you cover as much of the syllabus as possible, and think very carefully about the focus of the question. Ie. don’t waste time answering points that will not score marks. Always make sure you collect the 4 professional marks! Best of luck.

February 8, 2014 at 7:07 pm #157037I would say go with p6 it’s a hell lot interesting than p7(except some areas like forensic) but it’s book is the biggest in all ACCA 1200 pages(Kaplan)
