I am still struggling with these and it is very important. Can anybody please help me?
March 3, 2016 at 10:01 am #303215Which aspects in particular are you struggling with?
March 3, 2016 at 6:30 pm #303297I don’t really understand how to do any of them. I have gone through the notes and watched the lectures but still it is not sinking in.
I have later attempted to go through the odd exam question lecture on this topic as well yet still I cannot do these style of questions. I’m wondering if there is a way of remembering as they all vary slightly. However, I don’t have time to read the chapter in the textbook as I am working my way through the other questions in the Revision Kit and this is not the only ACCA I am sitting next week.
If you have any idea of what helped you to learn this I would appreciate the advice.
Thank you
Chloe
March 3, 2016 at 7:16 pm #303303The comprehensive example in the course notes (Ausra and Danute) is a great example and one I practised over and over until it became second nature.
Another way I grasped the concept was to,complete the mini exercises in the course notes as I found breaking it down very useful. Starting with PUPs, goodwill, NCI, etc
Then there is a couple of simple questions in the practice questions in the form of Gill and Job and August both very easy…..
I am by no means an expert and I still make silly mistakes and as far as I know there is no way to remember all I do know is what you take out say in the form if the investment, you have to add back in….
You take out cost of investment, you add back in the form of goodwill, you split post acq between parent and subsid, you amortise / impair goodwill you split between parent and subsid I see it as a bit of jigsaw if I’m honest but hey that’s me….
Hope this helps….
March 3, 2016 at 10:13 pm #303321I will look at that again.
Funny you should say mini exercises, that is what I started on when I was having difficulty so I will need to pick up where I left off with those.
This does help. Thank you.
Also, I have seen convertible loan notes come up in questions where they said students didn’t know what to do. They were in F9 which I managed to pass in December but I never fully understood them then. It looks like I might not get away with it this time though.
