Oh Abraham! By your innocent question you have simultaneously reminded me of my advancing years and emphasised just how young you are!

I suppose that we should both be grateful that the comment didn’t say ”when an offer is made by pigeon post reasonable time commences from the date the pigeon was released” or “when an offer is made by smoke signal reasonable time commences from the date the fire is lit”

In olden days, before mobile phones, fax machines, 3D printers and flat screen tvs, when a message had to be sent and time was of the essence, it was available to send a telegram. One would write out the message, hand it in to the post office where it would be transcribed into telegram format and despatched.

The process could be effected over the telephone by asking the operator at the phone company to be put through to ‘telegrams’. One would dictate the message and it would be sent. I suppose the easiest way to consider it would be by calling it ‘super-express post’

OK? (I need to go and lie down now whilst I dream of nostalgia)

My breathing is almost back to normal … or, at least, what passes as normal these days
