At 1 September 20X2, RIO had issued share capital of 2 million equity shares of $1.00 each, and a share premium account of $200,000. During the year ended 31 August 20X3, RIO made a ‘1-for-4’ rights issue at $1.50 per share which was fully subscribed. In addition, RIO made a part-repayment of a long-term loan of $250,000. RIO also received a dividend of 40,000 on a shareholding it has in another entity and paid a dividend to its own shareholders of $50,000.
What was RIO’s net cash inflow arising from ‘financing activities’ for the year ended 31 August 20X3?
Can someone please explain how to work out the share capital part ?
Rights issue proceeds (2,000 × 1/4 × $1.50) = $750,000 however why is share premium not included in this ?
