    good day sir

l am finding difficulties answering the following question from the Kaplan kit.

Q28. Thiago is provided with a new diesel company car on 6 May 2018 which he used for both business and private purposes during the tax year 2018/19. The car has a list price of £28,000 and CO2 emissions of 178 grams per kilometre.
What is Thiago’s car benefit for the tax year 2018/19?

I am currently doing self study and failing to understand why carbon emission of 178grams is rounded down to 175gramms. Also from the tax tables there is a statement which says “the percentage rates applying to petrol cars”
Do these rates work for diesel cars or they are specifically for petrol cars. kindly assist

    The answer is as follows:
    £9,497
    CO2 emissions = 178 g/km (rounded down to 175), available for 11 months
    %
    Diesel 24
    Plus: (175 ? 95) × 1/5 16
    –––
    Appropriate percentage 40
    –––
    Restricted to 37% maximum
    £
    Car benefit (£28,000 × 37% × 11/12) 9,497
    –––––

The questions you ask indicate that you cannot have studied the OT notes and watched the lectures that accompany those notes – you simply MUST do this before you attempt any questions. Tax is a technical subject full of rules and these rules need to be learned and practised by working carefully and conscientiously through the notes and lectures and then you can gain the necessary further practice from the Kaplan kit.
I strongly advise you to undertake that process as your route to passing this exam
