Hi this chapter for capital gains individual relief seems to be broad and dull topic, is the exam likely to have a lot of marks for this topic in the big questions or is it not much to worry about if i do forget about how to deal with the reliefs? Theres so much to remember in this chapter. I want to quickly finnish studying this exam and then focus on past questions 7 days before the exam on the topics i think is cruicial.

    Thanks

With the greatest of respect I do not care for your judgement of this topic and your comments are entirely unprofessional – and yes it is important. If you do not put the study effort in and work through the lectures and notes then you will not be prepared for this exam!

Would you please advise if a married couple owns a same property, they both lived in that property for 10 years. After that, a wife accompanied kids to study in overseas. At that time, a husband was still living in that flat. After 3 years, the flat has been sold. Then, the husband and wife are counted to be a one family unit or separate case to count? If treated it as separate case, could the wife apply PPR? As the wife didn’t occupy in the flat for 3 years for any reasons. For the husband because he occupied in the flat so far, so he is no need to pay CGT. Is this concept correct? Thanks tutor.

Each spouse is taxed separately, though with the last 18 months being deemed occupation there is unlikely to be any taxable gain after accounting for the time apportioned gain and the AEA – where did you see this question and what did the answer say?
