Hi Mr Moffat, is calculating the beta factor still in the F9 syllabus as I have been going through my BPP study text, Cost of Capital topic but did not find this bit. I know it used to be in the previous text, do I need to know how to calculate the beta?
Thanks
Calculating the beta has never been in the syllabus for Paper F9.
What you might be thinking of is that you could be asked to use the formula backwards ( you could be given the required return, the market return, and the risk free rate, and then use the formula backwards to get the beta)
Also, of course, you can be asked to calculate the asset beta from the equity beta, and vice versa,
Calculating betas as they are calculated in real life is not (and never has been ) in the syllabus.
