    i was calculating learning rate in one of the questions in kaplan exam kit,
    could you please let me know how to enter the below equation in a scientific calculator. how to calculate r ?

    0.7163 = r4 (4 is actually an exponent)

    the answer is r= 0.92

    You need to take the 4th root of 0.7163. Your calculator will have a button for taking the x’th root. What it looks like and how you use it depends on what calculator you have, and you will have to check in the manual (if you have lost the manual then if you type the model into Google you should be able to find it).

    Alternatively, for the 4th root, you can take the square root twice (but you must still find the button I refer to, because you could need to calculate a 3rd or a 5th root and for them the only way is to use the xth root button).

    Thanks John.

    I got the answer. i always used a normal calculator thus far and never needed to use a scientific calculator until i started studying for Performance management. while i was practising now i was just temporarily using a google online scientific calculator.

    Could you please suggest me which is the best scientific calculator i could buy ? or will there be a inbuilt calculator for PM exam as we have for Taxation ?

    There is an inbuilt calculator, but it is better to have your own and that you have practiced using it – it will be faster.
    Any scientific calculator is fine 🙂
