Hi,
I finished my RAP and sent it to my mentor, his answer to my paper was” business analysis part is too narrative, should use figures to evaluate the affects of each factors” what this mean? he is quite slow to answer me…
I used Porter’s 5 forces and SWOT, and i just listed everything like this: ” weakness: 1. The company depends on a limited number of suppliers for key raw material. if there is any problem in obtaining this material from these suppliers, it may be difficult to find suitable substitutes without affecting the timing and quality of its production. 2.blah blah..”
i know i am not at it, but i don’t have a clue how can i do it better? Plz help me….i am running out of time, this is so depressing…November 1, 2012 at 1:03 pm #106292Hi Claire – congratulations on finishing the project – don’t panic 3 weeks to resolve any loose end is plenty.
In the context of your overall report, I think one of the most important things (based on the Bsc OBU pack) is to ensure you have completed a Business and Financial Analysis of the organisation in question. Obviously the above extract is commentary based but do you have lots of financial analysis in your findings ? For example, are there any figures to back up your statement that the company is using too few suppliers ? e.g. of the 50mm cost of goods sold, 80% originated from a single supplier (and confirm the reference of that figure). You may have, but just not included in your small sample above. To caveat – I haven’t passed this particular project yet (submitting this session too) but I don’t think there is anything wrong with a having narrative sections in your conclusions. Just make sure all the statements you make are backed up and referenced properely and that you have included a financial analysis in Part 3 which ties in with what you said in Part 1 + 2.
Good luck!
November 1, 2012 at 9:29 pm #106293Hi Kitcat,
Thanks for your reply!
I have some ratio analysis for financial performance, such as revenue growth, GP margin etc. Just the most common ratios. But nothing can link to Business analysis part. I though business analysis just list out the obvious strengthens and weakness…. So should i put some figures in business performance too? i.e. i said the company has high brand awareness, should i collect some data, and present what are the effects of the high brand awareness? How much is the advertising expenses? etc.
If so, it means i have to do a lot of new research, and some of the figures are not easy to be found online…..like how much percentage of material is supplied from one supplier…November 1, 2012 at 10:25 pm #106295Hi Smoke,
Thank you so much!
Now i have some idea, just these figures for the company i am writing is not that widely available…like market share ….sad…
but will try to get some out of internet…lol
Thanks for both of you again!November 2, 2012 at 8:46 am #106297I think Smoke gives great advice here: the entire FF was theory but my theory was linked to facts and figures (Derived from news papers & annual reports)
I saw in another thread that someone had failed on referencing – but it wasn’t just because they hadn’t completed it per harvard, the examiner actually commented something like “you frequently ignored referencing so I had no idea whether the statement you were making was your own view or you had taken it from someone else”.
The last thing I am going to do on my project is read the whole thing through with a really critical eye and make sure I haven’t said a single thing that isn’t backed up with facts / references or clearly states it is the author’s opinion.
You are so nearly there – keep going!x
November 2, 2012 at 8:53 pm #106298Hi Kitcat,
Thanks! I don’t think i will be able to do it as good as you guys, i am not really very good at writing…But trying my best!
Good luck for all of you guys!!!November 2, 2012 at 9:22 pm #106299don’t put yourself down luv – I’m not a project fan at all! at work I always encourage my analysts to work on projects because I hate them so much! hence the reason I’ve got loads left to do and <3weeks left. gulp 🙂
November 5, 2013 at 3:13 pm #144623hey guys even i am doing my project but its such a big headache :/ anyways i wanted to ask if we can analyse on our own ? i mean do we need to reference each and every thing? and also the online resources mostly are through payment and stuff and no great analysis are available online… can anybody help on this,, i found your above comments really worth so i asked u guys
November 5, 2013 at 3:14 pm #144625i am reaaaly bad in theories and analysing stuff 🙁 finding these last days very hectic :/
November 5, 2013 at 4:37 pm #144629When you did ratio analysis , how did you reference “revenue grew due to bla bla”? or is it implied that this information is derived from the financial statements? or did you say that most of my work in ratio analysis, i have taken the facts as they were told in company’s reports.
Or what did you do ?Question is TO ALLLLL :))
November 5, 2013 at 8:03 pm #144648@smoke advise key word to search scribd. and thanks you are taking out time to give your valuable comments to this forum.
November 5, 2013 at 8:12 pm #144649@claire1985 do not submit this period if you can not search out supporting references from news paper or annual reports. Marker will have no mercy even if it is your third attempt.
November 7, 2013 at 7:46 pm #144888salahuddin, i did get few points from the CEO reviews about the company’s perfrmance, but for some ratios i wasnt simply able to find any reasons, so i just went thru the detailed financial notes, like revenues were segregated between local and intl, and depreciation amts and stuff , so just few thngs were by myself :/
