Hi,
I have a rather specific question, but something I’d greatly appreciate any assistance on.
It relates to the dates of Financial statements for the submission period 40 in May 2020.
The main entity most recent financial statements are as listed below, with the next set of financials not ready until after the May 2020 deadline:
1 April 2016 – 31 March 2017
1 April 2017 – 31 March 2018
1 April 2018 – 31 March 2019However all comparative companies don’t have FY19 accounts available yet, with the below dates of published financials being the most recent:
1 January 2016 – 31 December 2016
1 January 2017 – 31 December 2017
1 January 2018 – 31 December 2018The 2019 financials won’t be available until after the submission date for period 40 for any comparative company I’ve found.
There is only a three month difference in the financial year ends of the above, but the headings for comparison data vs actual is likely to look odd. Is it OK to use companies with the above dates as comparison?
If so could the headings be labelled as 2016/17, 2017/18 & 2018/19 for the main focus entity, with the comparisons labelled 2016, 2017, 2018 with an explanation paragraph or comment in the introduction explaining the slight difference to the reader, or how would you suggest best to do this?
I’m keen to make it clear to the reader that the data is a close comparison despite the different Year End dates, without over-complicating it.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

April 8, 2020 at 8:10 am #566817Hello,
I just recently completed My OBU-ACCA Bsc and graduated in Sept 2019.
I am planning to apply for a master’s degree on the basis of this BSc. but I have few confusions in regards to this:
– I reside in Pakistan, my degree is from UK, how do I my documents verified to apply for universities abroad.
– my basic focus is on applying to European universities from Austria, Germany, Italy etc. what accreditation I require, how do I get my degree verified.
-OBU sent me my degree in December, we didn’t receive anything on stage during the graduation ceremony on stage. My question is if the degree and transcripts we have are original documents or verified copies.deadlines for universities are fast approaching and I require help in regards to my certificates and documents, about the verification.
looking for a helpful response,
thanks.April 11, 2020 at 10:40 am #567183Different countries and different educational establishments set their own rules and entrance requirements and therefore we cannot answer this question for you unfortunately.
Obviously Oxford Brookes itself would recognise it for their own Masters courses.
April 20, 2020 at 2:04 am #568794I’m considering whether to attempt the OBU degree. I already have a good non accounting degree so I’m not sure it’s worth it. But I have one paper left at the fundamental/applied level and will be on track for a first (77% average) if I pass the assessment so it’s tempting to give it a go.
As I won’t be able to sit the exam until September I won’t find out whether I’ve passed until mid October. I can see the deadline for completing the ethics module is the end of September but does this mean I also need the pass result by then or just before submission in November?
April 26, 2020 at 9:37 am #569269As long as you have passed by the time you submit there will be no issue.
It will take time and effort and the costs will be the mentoring fee and the university submission fee
If your other degree is BA then you would at least be adding a BSc to your CV/ resume
Some students find intrinsic rewards – this might depend on the topic but you can develop more expertise in some areas (deeper practical knowledge) and that can sometimes add to your skillset. As to whether it is worthwhile only you can decide!
June 3, 2020 at 11:28 am #572654Hi all. I hope someone can help me. I am considering at doing a project. I did read about the requirements when I can start doing the project but I still got very confused. So, before I start doing project, I need to have F1-F9 passed + ethics? And then I can start preparing for the project?
Many thanks in advance.
June 7, 2020 at 2:28 pm #573065Here are some comments made by the University in a recent newsletter to mentors – [these are direct citations]:
“Students are not required to have passed their examinations 2 months prior submission…. The requirement for students to have passed their exams 2 months prior to submission was included to protect students from underestimating the work required to complete a RAP… The RAP is a substantial piece of work and students should plan to spend 2-3 months working on it.
Students who pass an exam in the Sept sitting (results released in Oct) can submit a RAP in Nov 2020. ”
Note also:
“Students are required to complete the Ethics and Professional Skills module by 25 Sept 2020 for a Nov 2020 submission (the old Ethics module is acceptable)”.June 23, 2020 at 2:39 am #574494Is the BSC reflected on your ACCA record? I completed my BSC in 2018 and isn’t reflected on my account to date.
June 26, 2020 at 4:59 pm #574752I don’t think your ACCA record would show your BSc as although your exam grades impact on the degree, the degree itself does not impact on your ACCA qualification..
Students’ ACCA record and results are communicated to Oxford Brookes because they need to know whether you are still within your 10 years, have passed the required number of papers and also as your average mark is needed to calculate the degree classification.
However I can see no reason why ACCA would need your degree details as once you have been awarded the degree you would be sent your transcript and a certificate for the BSc.
June 30, 2020 at 8:52 pm #575556Hello, I registered and paid for exemptions in 2012. I sat for the first exam in 2015. How much longer can I complete the OBU degree? Also, do you know anyone who has used this degree to get a post graduate degree (Msc, PhD)?

The degree must be completed within 10 years of the earliest of the date of your first ACCA examination pass or the date of your first ACCA exemption being granted.
However, if there are unexpected reasons outside your control that mean you cannot submit your RAP within the 10 year eligibility period, the Exceptional (mitigating) Circumstances regulations MAY apply. Refer Appendix 7 of OBU information pack for details.

Ignite MentoringJanuary 10, 2022 at 10:47 pm #645616Was looking to do OBU BSc and had a few questions.
1. What’s the approx number of hours it usually takes to complete the whole project from start to finish? Just to get the idea like is it around a 100 hours 200 hours or what.
2. For submission in May 2022 for topic 5, the statements have to be from FY18 to FY20 or can be of earlier too?
3. How do we select a company for topic 5? I mean what methods can we use to determine which company performed exceptionally well over the past 3 years (or bad for topic 4).
Thanks in advance.January 12, 2022 at 6:13 am #645711Hi all, I became a full member of ACCA on the 27 of September 2017 and I gave my first ACCA exam in the October of 2013. So I want to ask whether I am still eligible for the OBU degree ? as I believe we have a 10 year time window to complete the same is this correct ? .
January 15, 2022 at 6:38 am #646084Yes, you have 10 years to complete and submit the work so May 2023 would usually be the last opportunity.
In fact there are I believe additional potential opportunities after the expiry of the 10 year rule, provided you are still undertaking regular CPD. Please consult the latest Information Pack on ACCA Global for details
However in all cases you still need to be up-to-date with your ACCA membership fees and would have to pay any backdated fees that are outstanding before you could submit.
January 17, 2022 at 10:03 am #646615Hi Everyone,
I applied for the BSc OBU Bursary for May submission. Can someone tell me how long does ot take for them to reply. Do we get a reply only if we are selected to receive one? Or will we get a reply in any case whether selected or or?January 19, 2022 at 11:20 pm #647069Can you please reply to my query too. Thanks.
January 24, 2022 at 8:09 pm #647391Sorry I can only give general advice about the RAP as Topic 5 is not a topic that I mentor for.
1. It is impossible to say how much time is needed to produce the RAP because student ability varies both in terms of their aptitude and skillset and the way they commit themselves. Also some students grasp the requirements quickly and adapt well to the appropriate writing style and good referencing and others struggle to come to grips with these. It also depends to some extent whether they want a higher grade. All I can say is that in my experience most students underestimate the amount of time they need to dedicate to the work so it is essential to set yourself some deadlines and monitor your progress against milestones to ensure you don’t fall behind,
2. You need to use the latest financial statements available. If the year end is December then these will usually be year end 2018, 2019 & 2020 if submitting in May 2022. However under the ’90 day rule’ if you subsequently were to defer to November 2022 you would have to include the 2021 statements as these would have been in the public domain more than 90 days before the submission period.
3. You need to look at pages from the business press to establish this as they will often report on company performance. From reading such articles you should be able to draw up a short list of suitable companies and then go on to research them further to select the most suitable
January 26, 2022 at 4:18 pm #647532Hey moderators, I have a small query regarding topic 5.
I have selected a company in a certain industry, their revenue growth in the past 3 years beats the industry, based on data available.
However when comparing with their competitor, their revenue growth exceeds them, so does the margin growth.
However, their margins still fall below the competitor drastically(which is the only possible benchmark). This is mainly because the competitor is a market leader already, and the company I’m selecting is only starting to gain the market leader’s market share.Any advice on whether I should proceed with this company, or start finding something else?
February 2, 2022 at 8:59 am #647941I have answered this on the Topic 5 thread and would ask that queries are only posted in once place though!
February 2, 2022 at 7:04 pm #648002Hi Guys,
Today I received an email from OBU regarding Period 43 submission and they requested my Personal Details such as ACCA Reg #, Full Name, address, DOB, email address, telephone number and gender.
I thought these projects were supposed to be marked anonymously.
Should I be concerned?
Regards,
Mahindra
March 22, 2022 at 7:01 pm #651656No it is just to ensure that they can get the result to you – i.e. that your email is still valid and your address [as they send your certificate to your registered home address]
