    Hey everyone. I would strongly suggest that you guys go through the OBU BSc Infopack. It is of critical importance, and answers all the general queries you might have:

    https://business.brookes.ac.uk/undergraduate/2014/acca/files/information-pack.pdf

    All the best.

    Dear Onakunle;

    To submit RAP; all F level papers should be completed and a pass need to be confirmed. Besides, a professional ethics module need also be completed before submitting the RAP.

    Hi,

    I’m currently doing my OBU RAP and I was wondering if the research project can be written in first person (I, me, you, etc)?
    Or is it better to to write the project in a formal matter?
    I’ve read the info pack and nothing was mention.

    Thanks.

    Hi Najwa

    I don’t think it matters. Some sections will sound better in first person, some in third. I recommend reading through the OBU RAP example. Here is the link:
    https://business.brookes.ac.uk/undergraduate/2014/acca/files/rr-exemplars.pdf

    Hope it helps and good luck with the project.

    Ok everyone I have decided to obtain this degree but I have no idea how to get started? As I am in a place where there are no tuition providers, so will you guys be kind enough to let me know about it? What about mentoring? And what role does a mentor play?

    Hi @sameed – As the OBU Forum moderator let me welcome you and any other newcomers to our site. I am confident that like many students you will find our contributors a great help (and comfort) to you as you embark on producing your RAP.

    Your first port of call should be the OBU Information Pack 2013/2014 which gives a lot of useful information about how to do the RAP and obtain the degree. It is available either on the ACCAglobal website or via this link

    https://business.brookes.ac.uk/undergraduate/2014/acca/files/information-pack.pdf

    It can be a bit ‘heavy going’ in places and therefore I am in the process of producing an article which I hope we can get on the site in the next few days that is a much briefer version but sets out some of the main points and it does address the subject of choosing a mentor. One of the problems with the latter is that you need a mentor but there are good mentors and bad mentors and sometimes you won’t know which you have until you are part way through…. nevertheless we hope on this site to fill the gap, should you find that you don’t have a mentor who measures up. We are able to provide a huge amount of advice and guidance from our experience so provided you are willing to put the effort in from your side, there is no reason why you will not achieve your objective and get the BSc degree. 🙂

    I suggest that you look at the list of 20 topics (in the Info Pack) from which you have to select one for your report and delve into some of our forum topics as this may give you an idea of what is involved. (I hope to get some articles out towards the end of next month on how to go about choosing your topic and company but this would give you a head start until they appear). Normally a RAP takes about 3 months to produce but at this stage think about what topics interest you, and what company or business sectors appeal as it is better to take time to select something that you may be enthusiastic about rather than rush headlong into something that you will find dreary and boring!

    So to you @sameed and everyone else new to this site – congratulations! – like our previous students, you have discovered one of the best sources of help and advice there is for the OBU RAP and to our returning students – welcome back!

    @ksandrinedfola It depends on your interests, as enthusiasm in your topic and subject company are of prime importance (I touched upon this in response to a comment on Forum ‘Topic 8 – choosing a company – where to start’, which you may like to look at).

    I shall be doing an article on this very topic for the site next month. In the meantime I have produced a few general articles based on my 10 years of RAP experience which may be of interest to you that are available if you use the link below:

    https://opentuition.com/obu/

    See the section at the bottom ‘More about OBU’

    @sameed – some articles have been posted and you (and anyone else) can reach them on the link below if you haven’t already found them.

    https://opentuition.com/obu/

    I will be finishing the article about choosing a topic next month (unfortunately time is really tight for me at the moment) and producing some FAQs that deal with various aspects of the RAP, SLS and submission which I think will be generally useful to students 🙂

    @syahmi – Are you sure you opted out? For the last few years the default position is that you are ‘in’ unless you yourself opted out. As for appealing that is probably one of those queries that we cannot answer and you would have to contact the Admin Office (the contact details are in the Info Pack).

    I think it is final but I wouldn’t like to stick my neck out on it as I really don’t know why they have that rule in the first place – but it is worth a try so send them an email.

    Why not ask point blank why there is this rule ? I am wondering if it was imposed historically and it is no longer relevant and nobody has bothered to query why it exists. Sometimes in life it is a case of ‘nothing ventured, nothing gained’! @sashimi you have nothing to lose if this rule means you cannot submit and everything to gain if you ask the question as they may review it.

    HONOURS CLASSIFICATION FOR THE BSc DEGREE

    What is the difference of Honours degree than the class based degree ?

    @rrahmati

    Your question might relate to the titles and curriculum of degrees. Some universities offer degrees with honours, e.g. BA (Hons) in x… or just BA in x… It used to be that some involved less work (e.g. did not have a dissertation included). However this is now antiquated because nationally applicable standards for the complexity and depth of learning required for degrees are now set by the Quality Assurance Agancy for Higher Education
    https://www.qaa.ac.uk

    Alternatively your question might refer to the classifications of degrees. In British universities the most common classification framework is for undergraduate degrees is:

    70% and above = First Class Honours
    60-69% – Second Class Honours, Upper Division (2:1)
    50-59% – Second Class Hounours, Lower Division (2:2)
    40-49% – Third Class Honours
    39% and under = Fail.

    Some universities have an additional classification, “Pass (without Honours)” which is generally 32/33% – 39%. This might be what you are thinking of by “standard degree”.

    Thank You

    @johan

    Process of BSc is very simple:

    – No need to communicate anything to ACCA or OBU but ensure that you are eligible for the program and opted for BSc. You should pass successfully first 9 exams of ACCA and meet English language requirement of OBU which is not F4 (as from 2014 onward F4 will be a computer based exam)

    – Select a topic

    – Select a company Ensure for your easiness that:
    1. Company is listed
    2. It is standalone company if possible
    3. It has a listed competitor
    4. It has media presence or you are employee of it

    – Information availability on the company and competitor is not an issue. Also ensure there are no confidentiality issues.

    – Have a project mentor, he* will guide you how to produce a good RAP.

    – Pay fee and Submit RAP on obusubmissions.co.uk

    – Wait for result.

    Thank You.

    * he or she surely? (this is an equal opportunity forum) 😀
