Dear Open Tuition users this is my first post on this forum. My friend recommended that I should visit Open Tuition if I had any questions about ACCA . Before I ask any questions I have to say that this website is just excellent!!

I am about to sit P1 exam in December 2014. This will be my first real ACCA exam because I am exempt from F1 to F9. I am considering to study with BPP (Polish branch) but I will be sitting my exam in the UK. I can choose between online classroom (I will get all books course notes pass cards etc. + recorded lectures) They also offer online classroom live which includes live sessions instead of recorded ones. Since P1 is a theoretical module I wonder if it is worth attending live e-lectures and pay extra. In both versions I will get a support of a lecturer from the UK and I will have access to BPP VLE platform + revision sessions.

Since I am a newbie, I would be grateful for any suggestions about
which method of preparation is best for this exam. Is it a good module for self study due to its descriptive and theoretical nature?

    Thanks in advance!

Well! What can I say? You’re asking me to recommend either one of two packages offered by the opposition?

Seriously, I have no experience at all of BPP’s packages so in all fairness it would be wrong of me to make any recommendation in that regard. Maybe someone that has experienced a similar dilemma will join the thread and give their opinion.

Now, the real reason why I’m answering (because I was not able to answer your specific question) is this …… if you read the thread “comments on P1 exam results instant poll” at the top of this page, you’ll see a number of them saying that they used only the opentuition materials and a revision kit.

That seems to be as good a piece of advice as any that I could give you

As part of your preparation for P1 you should try to listen to BBC news every evening. Invariably within the half hour programme there is at least one news item about corruption, lack of transparency, fraud, oppression …….

Also, register with http://www.accountancyage.com and get their daily post. Again invariably there’s something in there about auditors losing clients, rotating off after (sometimes) 100 years of being that client’s auditors, directors duties, lack of compliance with corporate governance requirements …..

    Hope that helps

Dear MikeLittle, thank you for your comments.

I have just realized that I have put you in an akward situation and made you comment on the BPP, but to be honest they can’t be treated as competition since materials offered on this website are free so there is nothing to compete for 😉 Opentuition wins hands down! hehe ;-))

Anyway, your comments are very helpful. Thanks. I think I will just use Online Classroom (not live), just to see how it works. As I said it will be my first proper ACCA exam so I want to see what is the difference between BPP materials and others. Of course I plan to support my studies with Opentuition.

If anyone else had any comments regarding P1, I would be grateful for your thoughts.
