Hi Sir! I have a revision kit for exams from 1 sept 2016 to 31 august 2017.It would be relevant doing that book now? Thanks very much!
February 11, 2019 at 2:39 pm #504763There are very few changes in the law exam from one year to the next and those changes that do happen tend to be additions to the syllabus rather than deletions
That would suggest that a 2017 revision kit will contain no questions that are no longer examinable and I can’t remember any significant addition from the last 2 years
Therefore, your revision kit from 2017 should be fine
OK?
February 11, 2019 at 6:04 pm #504804Hi Sir! I need an advice for my choice. I did not order a book because I am still confused what is better to study. I am living in Ireland and I found that in colleges are studying Irish law. Please tell me what is relevant for my country?
Thanks very much
February 12, 2019 at 7:51 am #504846Laura, in an earlier answer to this same question, I pointed out that when you compare the English variant syllabus with the Irish variant syllabus, there are only 3 occasions where the Irish syllabus specifically refers to “Irish” or “Ireland”
Now, it may be that there are other occasions where the Irish law differs from the English equivalent (for example, it MAY be that the number of days notice for a special resolution is different (I don’t know – that’s just a hypothetical example)) but it seems to me that the two variants are pretty similar
Now, which to choose!
What are your long-term plans and aspirations? If you intend at some time in the future to go to England and establish yourself in an accountancy practice, the ACCA rules as they stand today require you to have passed the English law paper variant
If, on the other hand, you wish to travel anywhere else in the World, maybe the Global variant would be better – and BPP DO have material for that variant
Thirdly, if you’re planning to stay in Ireland, then the Irish variant would seem most appropriate but using English variant material … or any other material available through local Irish colleges
Does that help?
February 12, 2019 at 10:51 am #504873Hi Sirl! I intend to stay in Ireland ad of course to get a job here. I’m sitting the exam on demand CBE where there are only the ENGLISH and GLOBAL and I am studying only from ACCAGLOBAL site and Opentuition. For me, it seems that I have to sit the exam in ENGLISH variant and that would be fine for me as long as it is recognized in Ireland. Thanks very much!
February 12, 2019 at 12:24 pm #504886“it seems that I have to sit the exam in ENGLISH variant ”
That doesn’t follow logically from what you have written before this phrase
Why can you not sit for the Global variant?
As to whether English (or, indeed, Global) law is recognised in Ireland … I really have no idea
Maybe you could ask your local office of one of the ‘Big 4″ audit firms – training department. They should be prepared to help you
Alternatively, post your question on the ‘General forum’ pages on this site and see it there’s an Irish student that perhaps could help
Let me know how you go on
OK?
February 12, 2019 at 12:43 pm #504891Ok Sir! Thanks very much! I’ll let you know!
February 12, 2019 at 1:45 pm #504898I’m looking forward to hearing from you
