All the really does is to expand the Porter’s generic strategies (basically cost leadership or differentiation) offered only two, perhaps simplistic, alternatives – each with the possibility of focus.
For example, Porter’s models do not really offer a product that is both better and cheaper.
It is worth being aware that there might be more roads to success, or more nuances, than in the basic generic strategy model.
