Sir,
I try to do the example 3 (bottleneck resources) from your course note , and I look for the answer at the back but I don’t really understand this one below :“The other processes will probably be slowed to ensure smooth processing.
Clearly an alternative approach is simply to look at the original table for processing speed and pick out the slowest process”August 8, 2018 at 6:54 am #466763The metal passes through three processes and therefore the factory can only produce at the speed of the slowest process. (If, for example, one process can only deal with 20 units an hour, then however fast the other processes are able to work there are only 20 units an hour for them to work on.)
Pressing is the slowest process (both the others are capable of working much faster) and therefore it is the capacity in pressing that determines how many end up being produced. The other two processes will not be able to work at full capacity (because there will not be enough units for them to work on) and therefore will work slower.
