What is the difference between audit engagement partner and audit manager?
The buck stops with the partner
The man(a)ger has responsibility delegated to him / her by the partner. Dependent upon the size and resources of the audit firm, it’s unlikely that the partner will get their “hands dirty” and, if it’s a Big 4 firm, it’s unlikely that the man(a)ger will get their hands dirty either.
If it’s a “small” firm, it could well be that the partner is closely and actively involved in the day-to-day conduct of the audit

In general, the partner is more senior in the firm hierarchy that the manager
