    Hello John, I am having problems with this question from the BPP Study Text

    The sales of colour televisions on each of 40 days was as follows

    DAILY SALES FREQUENCY MIDPOINT FX
    > 0 less than or equal to 3 8
    > 3 less than or equal to 6 16
    > 6 less than or equal to 9 12
    > 9 less than of equal to 12 4
    TOTAL 40

    Fill in the gaps in the table above.
    The variables in the table are DISCRETE/ CONTINUOUS
    The arithmetic mean of data =

    When i calculate, my midpoints are eg 1.5 etc., hence the variables are continuous
    But the answer in the book are rounding the mid point eg 2 so their variables are discrete.

    What should i do? They did not mention rounding in the question.

    It is because the sales each day here must be whole numbers.

    So > 0 and less than or equal to 3 means that they must have sold 1, 2, or 3. So the mid-point is 2.

    Similarly, > 3 less than or equal to 6 means that they must have sold 4, 5, or 6. So the mid-point is 5.

    I would not worry about this for the exam.
