    Hi,

Just wondered if anyone has attempted to appeal their mitigating circumstances claim.

I’ve sat FM 4 times now with results of 45%, 42%, 49% in June and 49% in September. I applied for mitigating circumstances as I was feeling extremely unwell the evening before and the day of my exam, suffering with PMDD, PMS and associated symptoms. I had to take multiple bathroom breaks during the exam due to this which meant I lost time.

I received an email from ACCA a couple of days before the results were released saying that they have completed a review of the mitigating circumstances and the final mark displayed on the examination status report will include any consideration awarded during this process. It also said “We would like to confirm that upon receipt of your result on 16th October, if you believe that ACCA did not apply its procedures properly in considering your case, you may appeal to the Examination Appeals Committee.”

As you would expect, I’m really disappointed with the 49% meaning I’ve missed a pass by 1 mark again. I worked really hard on my exam technique and put in a lot of time to finally pass this exam and felt confident. Unfortunately I really did have bad luck and felt absolutely terrible before and during the exam sitting, for reasons beyond my control.

Has anyone had any luck with a mitigating circumstances appeal? Also, does anyone know if they do in fact add marks, and roughly how many? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

I am out of my office this week so cannot easily write a long reply, but if you put mitigating circumstances ” into the search https://opentuition.com/search-opentuition you will find detailed responses covering all your questions.

    Hi Kim,

Thanks for your response. I’ve had a read over most of the mitigating circumstance forums but quite a few are down to technical issues and also not many have listed the outcome of the appeal. Just posted this to see if anyone had any positive outcomes on appeals, or anyone in a similar boat with a narrow miss of 1%.

    Thanks!

When you were given the benefit of your mitigating circumstances, the fact that you were left short of 1% would have been considered. In appealing you are only asking for an admin check that the proper processes were followed. There is no remarking and no examiner intervention.

My past posts will tell you that only a few marks max can added. I’ve been involved in these forums for more than 5 years and no student has posted a “successful” outcome.
