    Hi people.
F9 is my last F paper and up to now I think this is the hardest by far.
Its not that I havent put effort in – Ive studied hard since beginning of August 4-5 nights per week, but nothing seems to be sticking.
Ive started doing exam practice questions but when I check against the answer Im a million miles away! πŸ™
The only “strong” subject I seem to have grasped is NPV/Investment appraisal.
Could it be that its because I am working in Audit & Accounst Practice?
    Any help or suggestions welcome.

Not looking forward to next Friday :((

    Best of luck

Me too, not that that helps you at all! I’m getting there with the cost of debt, equity and WACC but haven’t even looked at hedging and risk and the early stuff is really hard, like working capital. Every time I do a question I never know how to start it but when I look at the answer it seems obvious.

I think if I get lucky with the questions I’ll be ok but it’s a big gamble. I work in the public sector so none of this is relevant to my job. I think that puts us at a disadvantage. Like you, I’ve put the time in so pretty disappointed things aren’t clearer by now.

Im actually working through Johns revision lectures on here tonight and they seem to be helping a bit. Just done the factoring one and Dividend growth model.
I’ll be glad if I get 50% – no way will I be doing Financial Management in the P levels!!

Here’s how i passed F9 after 3 attempts that were not the best. I printed out all the past papers from ACCA website. I did all of them from 2007 to date. You will notice a trend and that it is more or less the same question asked 5 different ways. By attempting all these papers, you will have mastered all the tweaks. The other thing you need master is examine technique. Take even 2 days to read and understand the techniques e.g 1.8 minutes per mark, correct format of answer etc.It makes the difference between 49% and 50%. Most importantly study smart not hard. don’t spend too much time with the text book. It will waste your time.

yes ,we have problems as well but solved it in this way :
we are 3 firends who is readig ACCA together ( passed Dip in IFRS in Dec 2012)and when reading together everything is easier but when comes to do it seperately difficulty will occur. So we read only when we are together (Weekends completely and once during week (3 hours)and review when we are reading seperately .We started it last week and almost finished Investment Appraisal and no room for failing and thinking to get F6 as well although we are working and having family (we are 36-31-29 Years old ).

Personally, I think F9 is the most difficult exam paper so far. I’ve passed P-level exams but with so many attempts at F9 so far, this paper is getting me down, in fact it’s a big stress factor! And revising what you’ve already studied several times is difficult as I know the text just doesn’t seem to be able to apply the technique in the exams to obtain a pass.

Surely, the ACCA needs to look into this exam setting as surely it’s not good for their performance indicators? :-). My performance in this paper is the worse ever and I have been doing well in exams. It is so very frustrating as I can’t finish Level 2 to do OBU but I’m clearing Level 3 papers, hmmmmm, very strange, very strange indeed!
Don’t give up! We’ll keep trying until we succeed!

I think its because there are so many ways to solve a question and each way is unrelated. Even when you study so hard, one can get a question that just throws you off balance. I too know many students that have finished all P levels that are being held back by F9. For me, whenever I finish it, it causes me to loose so much confidence as I don’t understand what happens and i’m not moving forward in my other papers. Maybe creating more standardized papers would help. Much time is spent analyzing the question and the way the questions are structured, you get no points on attempts (unlike something like P2 that even when your answer is wrong, they mark your steps)
I really pray that I make it this time.. it’s been quite difficult for me too…

hi, I have failed this paper 3 times already. Like all of u is very frustating , its the only ACCA paper i failed to date (finger cross). I literally tried everything from going classes, txts, kit, doing revision course, using OT, i am really out of ideas. There is so many areas where i am weak and failing to interpret.

Every failing at this paper is eating out my confidence, it even affected my promotion at work as my employers wants me to finish level 2 even though i passed P exams. I am just not getting the concept of this paper and to me half of the stuff is garbage and most will not even apply to modern day life.

My friends told me it may be a problem with my structure of the answers as i am also gaining very low marks in my previous attempts. So i will look at that and work on it.

I am struggling with this paper too, although now don’t fell so bad as I am not be only one! I can understand the concepts and work when I work through the OT lectures but when I try and answer the questions in the revision kit it’s like reading in a foreign language!

Anyone have a plan of attack for this paper, I am using the BPP materials.

    Any suggestions greatly appreciated πŸ™‚

I have qualified F9 in my first attempt. I didn’t find the paper that much difficult. Yeah P4 was horrible for me. Any ways my friend is having 5th or 6th attempt this term, June 2013. What my teacher has advised about this paper is that never over emphasize on the Numerical part, always prepare well for the theoretical one too. I think many fellows don’t prepare well for . the theory. I passed my P2 and F9 by the theory part . In my attempt of P2 there was expectation of IFRS-9 to be examinable and i crammed through it. Luckily a 10-12 marks straight away question was asked . Also i remember advantages of pay back were asked of 2-4 marks was asked and i cashed in quickly. 7-9 marks was asked about the effect of Debt instrument on the WACC or something like that and i grabbed that too. Always en-cash the tiny and straight away questions. 30-40 percent is theory in F9 and it help you to pass.
And always attempt 100% paper. My frend attempted PERFECT two questions and some chunk of Q3. That made him fail on 47. What use of that perfectness? If you stuck at some step in numerical part put in a assumed figure and carry on to complete the question. You will only loose mark of that assumed figure but gain the other steps marks. Dont not over give the time to a single question. Make you answer brief if time is less but always attempt the 100% that is important.
Some of my tips may be childish but it may help someone to get the 4-5 marks that can make the difference.
    Best of Luck
    Regards,

It is now Paper FM, not F9.

You should work through the chapters in our free lecture notes in order, watching the free lectures that go with them.

There is no such thing at the top 3 most difficult chapters – all of the topics are of a similar level of difficulty.
