Anyone else out there struggle to learn from watching or attending lectures?
Throughout University I found I never took in information through lectures whether that be in person or online so I just ended up self studying (seemed to work as I got a 1st class degree).
I also find the same thing with ACCA, lectures are useless for me which is annoying as my employer will only give me time off to attend classes but I don’t learn anything from them.. just end up sitting there spaced out after an hour and having to read the stuff myself another time.
I do learn more from reading the material itself, but the absolute best way I learn is by starting off with the questions be before doing anything as funny as that sounds. I read the question and I then go back and find out how to answer it in the notes or book!
Is this normal and does anyone else find they don’t learn from lectures/classes?

October 23, 2015 at 9:56 am #278532I failed f5 in sitting Sept 2015. I had attended a platinum provider part time and was at each lecture and done their revision course. I am currently enrolled for f9 with them.
The I started using opentuition to hit f5 and f9 for December, and already I am noticably taking more in. I can pause and rewind, take things at my own pace.
Top of the list is John Moffat is possibly the best lecturer I have come across in all my studies, from third level until now. From my own experience, opentuition is the best resource out there, if you have a decent home office set up and are disciplined enough for self study. But do get exam kits from authorized providers.

October 26, 2015 at 1:19 pm #279034I did. I attended a BPC classroom study once, it was awful, rushed, crammed everything in, it was no better than me reading from a text book, so thats what i did
I think to be really successful at studying, you need to identify how you learn. I realised that sitting, listening to someone talk at me does nothing for me, I learn by jumping in at the deep end and figuring things out myself, so thats the approach i learned in the end. I started by looking at exam questions, figured out how it worked, then learnt the supporting theory
