My main problem in not passing P6 is that the requirements, in most case, are not clear. I make reference to December 2007 Question 1 Part B(i) – Kaplan Exam Kit Question # 41 where it asked for an explanation of the matters for taxable income. However, having read the answer, I noticed that just a mere calculation was given.
This for me is ridiculous. Why? Because, in my mind, I would explain how the individual will be subject tax and any available reliefs or exemptions based on his situation. Based on the answer, I would just be wasting my time doing all this.
Thus, why cant the examiner just simply say, “Provide a calculation of Adam’s Taxable Income for 2010/11”.
I think it is so unfair to use “explain” in the requirement when only a calculation is required.
What are your thoughts? and, any necessary guidance on the above.
Help Please.

Microsoft Access 2010May 25, 2011 at 1:18 pm #72090In recent times, the question format for P6 has been more specific than the example quoted by you. I think you may need to obtain an updated kit in order to see what the questions and suggested answers applicable to your sitting are.
If you do not have time to get a kit, download the most recent past papers from ACCA’s website and look through them.
I passed P6 and I realised, the key to it is knowing the entire syllabus and practicing the questions in order to gain the application skills.
