Why the ‘gross profit’ is not affect when allowance for receivable increases or decrease?
So, if the allowance for receivable increases/decrease is just affect to ‘net profit’, is that right?March 4, 2015 at 12:45 pm #231238You are correct that it only affects the net profit.
The reason is does not affect the gross profit is that the gross profit is showing the difference between the sales and the cost of the sales. Customers who are irrecoverable or doubtful are effectively costing us money (and so reducing net profit) but it is not because we are selling at a lower price or because the goods cost us more.

March 7, 2015 at 2:38 pm #231616Pliz help me how must l record the allowance in the SOPL
March 8, 2015 at 9:03 am #231663The allowance itself does not appear in the Statement of profit or loss.
The change in the allowance is what appears as part of the total irrecoverable and doubtful debts expense.
I do suggest that you watch the free lecture on irrecoverable and doubtful debts.
