Hello – I’m brand new to this so I hope you’ll bear with me! I’ve finally pulled my finger out and registered to study ACCA after years of procrastination. I’ve worked in industry finance for a number of years now, working my way up from accounts payable to the position of assistant accountant. In between I had I baby – he’s now at school!

I’m hoping to study from home, and work my way through the early exams as quickly as possible. Bearing in mind I work full time and also have a family, I know I won’t be able to dedicate as much time to this as some.

Does anyone have a realistic idea of what materials I might find best to study with, and whether it’s best to study for each one alone, or can I combine study for F1-3? I understand that the exams for these are computer based and can be sat at any time, but I live over 2 hours from the nearest exam centre so it’d work out best if I could sit those exams in one trip, if you catch my drift (especially as it will also mean time off work).

Thanks for any advice you can offer.

Our free lectures (together with the fee course notes that go with them) are really all you need for studying.

The one book that you do need for each paper is a Revision/Exam Kit from one of the ACCA approved publishers. They contain lots of exam-standard questions to practice on, and practice is vital.

If you have any problems with the studying or with the questions in the Revision Kit, then you can ask for help in our forums.

As for studying for 3 exams at the same time, many people do take 2 or 3 papers together, but so much depends on how much time you have available for studying and how easy or difficult you find the papers. Best is to start with that aim, and if you find that you are finding it too difficult or time-consuming, then cut down to maybe 2 papers.

With regard to sitting three exams in one trip, if you mean to take three exams in one day then you might find that a bit stressful! However, provided the CBE centre is prepared to let you then it is really up to you.
