advanced variances

hello
with regards to advanced variances is it enough just to know the formulas or there should be some understanding

You do need to understand because although some questions just ask for the numbers (in which case just learning the formulae is enough), other questions will ask you to discuss the variances and for this you do need to know what they actually mean.
