    Hi

I had a frustrating experience in getting my Per to be counter signed by a qualified accountant and I would like to ask for advice.

My time experience was signed off by my non-qualified line manager , however she could not sign my Per. I requested permission from my company external auditor with my company managemt’s consent but was flat out denied by them due to an excuse that the audit firm partner does not know my work. I repeatedly inform them tHat they can contact my line manager for verification but they still refuse to do so- it’s been almost a year of waiting till I get the definite ‘no’ answer.

Now my question is can I appoint another qualified accountant to sign off my work even thought he does not have any business interactions with my company? He’s willing to contact my line manager and confirm my work. I contacted Acca regarding this and they were very vague about this but confirm to me that a qualified accountant is eligible to sign.

    Please advice.

“As per our conversation earlier, I would like to confirm that Performance objectives are required to be signed off by someone who is Qualified Accountant or IFAC registered.
If you are working in an organisation where there is no supervisor who is Qualified Accountant then performance objectives can be signed by someone from outside as well as long as they are Qualified Accountant.
It is very important that the person who is approving Performance objectives understands the nature of the job and both supervisor and External Accountant will agree on everything before signing off performance objectives”

“Most often, your practical experience supervisor will be your line manager or the person you report to on particular projects or activities.

Your supervisor does not need to be a qualified accountant to sign-off the time you have completed in a relevant role.

Therefore if your line manager is not qualified they can sign-off your time and you can choose a second, qualified practical experience supervisor who can work with your manager to sign-off your performance objectives. This second practical experience supervisor could be another manager within the organisation, a consultant or the organisation’s external accountants or auditors”

Getting external qualified accountant to sign off so long as they have a written audit trail confirming your manager agrees with all of your PER will be fine. Thats exactly what i did and now im a chartered accountant and signing off experience on behalf of colleagues

    Hi moe30 ,

what do you mean by written audit trail ? Is it a formal signed letter from the managemt to confirm my work experience ?

Will there be any ethical issue concern if the external accountant do not have any working relationship both directly or indirectly ? However she’s verifying with my line manager and external auditor regarding my work experience.
