I was soo clueless with this ..I wrote joining fair trade organisations and lobbying with the government to end child labour practices…do u think they make sense?
September 3, 2019 at 4:53 pm #544547Paper was total disaster…Q3 was out of no where….I could’nt relate it to the main exhibits neither it was clear how to answer…
Presentation question was also ambigous.. examiner did not ask like this in previous exam..
Definitely one of the toughest SBL paper..September 3, 2019 at 4:53 pm #544549It does to me. Because it’s a control activity I suppose..
September 3, 2019 at 4:54 pm #544550i actually got the opposite, 94k for excelsior and 91k for BB
September 3, 2019 at 4:57 pm #544551Higher contriubtion however higher hours but when I worked contribution of labour it resulted in the same amount
September 3, 2019 at 5:12 pm #544557Although question 3 was a difficult but as i understand he gave a brain storming presentation that how do they achieve professional excellence an examiner was asking at what extent they were following it.
The controls i recommended were not good I recommend that surprise checks should be made to farm and continous monitoring to be done and report submitted by risk commitee to the board about the risk.
Can anyone confirm wether i will get any marks for the internal control recommndation part?
September 3, 2019 at 5:23 pm #544559I got the impression that the exam was actually easy in theory, NOTHING technical, but so badly designed!!
Q3 – We had looked at Baldrige in my revision classes, I had studied it and the application of it, yet I could not understand what the question actually needed me to do nor where to get the ‘inspiration’ from? Like there wasn’t enough info to expand on…
September 3, 2019 at 5:37 pm #544561The financial implications was a bit tricky.
Although BB alone showed the higher contribution the question ask which should be prioritised first then the other partly.
This way prioritizing Excelsior gives us the higher contribution because the balance will be used in product A for BB which has the higher contribution per labour hour and less from product C which has lowest contribution.
Prioritizing E gives us 94$ whereas prioritizing BB gives us $91.
Non financial Implications are dissatisfaction of existing retailer, less geography covered through Excelsior since only one store compared to retailer chain.
spent way too much time on the calculations than available.
September 3, 2019 at 6:02 pm #544567I pretty much wrote nothing for financial side and wrote loads of points for none financial side and fact better long term and use your own branding
My worst area is presentation skills as isn’t completely subjective and was over 30 marks for those questions, probably be trying this for 4 th time now
September 3, 2019 at 6:03 pm #544568Disaster.. Q1 threw me, like writing notes for the 4 slides, did they want notes for Slide 1 which was just the Title of the Presentation? Such nonsense to be even thinking of this in an Accounting final exam. Unnecessary complications.
Wasted ages on Q1 then had little time for Baldrige which is annoying as I actually knew it but oh well thats my fault I guess.
See you in December SBL!
September 3, 2019 at 6:12 pm #544569omg i got the same thing !!!!!!
September 3, 2019 at 6:21 pm #544570@adolf121 Nice analysis for No. 2.
I used different approach and arrived at almost same conclusion
I considered that Pdt A and B has the highest contribution and also higher contribution per hour.
A total of 10,000 unit for these products were needed which would take 25,000 man hour, leaving us with 5,000 hrs. This would result to a contribution of $85,000. The remaining five hours can only be used to produce 1,666 of products C.
I suggested that this can be rationed to both customers,
However, under Non-financial, i considered that there Dulce’s aim is to open new market and seeing that Excelsior is new customer that operates at higher end of the market and would be marketting with a diffrent name, i opined that there order should be fulfilled.
This would mean lower contribution as the hours that would have gone to produce more A and B for BB would be loss. BB is a regular customer and the product would be sold in Ducle’s name, they can be manage as the risk of stock out will be on Ducle
What do you think
September 3, 2019 at 6:23 pm #544572I wrote that bb gave the higher contribution of 138,000 due to there being 2 hours per box for example therefore so instead of times the amount of boxes by the the labour hour contribution it was say 2000 boxes x 2 hours per box x contr pre labour hour does this make sense could be wrong and the explanation was that E is taking another contact on in the future the contribution made on the labour hours only make you up to the level of bb I.e. 92 and 46 labour contribution gets you to 138 so you would only be making profit on the box contr.
Also the last question I wrote the reasoning behind each part of the model then done a separate 3 lines on each part and linked this back to the exbs however I found you have to look at questions done to find the answers to this such as product combination, lack of skills mentioned in the table for risks
My 2 controls where to physically inspect regular visits to ensure child labour they are getting paid and that they are there on their own free will
And that workplace accident book reviewed every month due to dangerous equipment and invest in new equipment and review training of this
I didn’t use Tara I used coso stating that the objective setting for competive, event identication for one regarding movements in prices and the other control activists due to the product impure
Part one I used pestal
Question 2 I done a table but just end up writing stuff rather than referring to the scenerio
Can anyone advise if this sounds ok I failed last time by 2 marks due to lack of time
September 3, 2019 at 6:25 pm #544573Did it not say in the question that the two orders could not be done together? They could only do one or the other and not in parts? Therefore there was unused skilled labours for both, 16,000 remaining with excelsior and 6000 with BB? Both have the same contribution per labour hour, but obviously BB gave a higher margin as it used more labour hours
September 3, 2019 at 6:31 pm #544574Are OFR marks applicable to SBL?
I got Excelsior 60k by mistake
But I got BB 91k correctly
Will I lose marks for my implicationsand recommendation?September 3, 2019 at 6:39 pm #544575im not sure but i can remember caluclating 24000hrs required somewhere.
Theres truly no right answer here right. They just see if our answers make sense. I agree that Excelsior is a new customer but the thing is as they will be marketing it with theyre own name it would mean our products will not have our own strong brand name which is vital for success.
Again it all comes down to how we present our answers.
September 3, 2019 at 6:41 pm #544578Yes I agree Aisling that’s what I arrived at although 6000 Labour hours for box b chocolates with excelsior

September 3, 2019 at 6:48 pm #544581For q1 i saw all the points to correctly write about pestle but instead needed write notes, no idea how start slide 1 so just said good afternoon, anybody start in better way?
September 3, 2019 at 6:52 pm #544582I’m sure it said something about which one to prioritise and which one to part fulfill.
Order should have been prioritised on contribution per limiting factor not total contribution so do all a then b then c.
Think I got 94k for excel and 91 for BB and 96k if you did all A all B and split C between both companiesSeptember 3, 2019 at 7:50 pm #544593Thought the paper went reasonably well. However for question 2a I didn’t present my answer in the first part as a table. Will I still get marked on the points made and marked down on presentation?
September 3, 2019 at 8:03 pm #544594Could relate to most of the comments regarding Question-3. Exam was doable but the last question made it so difficult and more like now getting 50 out of the available 80 is the deal. Disappointed 🙁
September 3, 2019 at 8:08 pm #544596Yeah. The 3rd question seems to be a huuuge problem for all the candidates. Hope they realize it was a mistake on the examiner’s part and they are lenient on the marking.

September 3, 2019 at 8:24 pm #544599I think it said you had to prioritise one order over the other but the second order could be part filled. I just did it to see which of the three options was best to comment on the options. If you can part fill either one I’d assume you can part fill both.
I recommended BB be fully filled first though, even though I had excelsior with a higher contribution – mentioned supplier relationship already existed, growth opportunities if successful as trial was 10% of stores, Excelsior was in high end sector and Northland was going through recession so would customers would be downgrading which shops they went to where as BB was a supermarket so unlikely to be as badly affected. - AuthorPosts
