I struggled on Part C as well. I had the question where the overheads were part variable, part fixed with royalties etc. I did lots of calculations but am not convinced I’ll get many marks for it! Definitely got the C/S ratio part wrong. I also had the building blocks question, didn’t have a clue so gave it a shot but didn’t write a lot. It seemed like a strange area to focus a high mark question on. I also expected to be asked calculation questions on variances or ratios but these didn’t come up in sections A or B.
September 5, 2018 at 10:26 pm #471725I put the effort in for this exam but I doubt I will get the reward as I feel like I have studied for a different exam, despite using a current revision kit. I would much prefer a written exam as the whole CBE set up is just hassle.

September 6, 2018 at 7:28 am #471771I got the same question..but couldn’t attempt well because of lack of time.
September 6, 2018 at 7:54 am #471772Does anyone remember their result at part C variance exercise? For Mix and Yield with Alpha Beta Gamma

Mix I think I got 19.50 F
Yield I couldn’t work out.. ended going with my gut and out 36800 ASeptember 6, 2018 at 9:44 am #471800@ltgorman said:
Overall I found the exam quite hard so could really go either way.Did anyone have the question (on section C) about building block? I found it very tricky and would be interested to see what other people wrote!
I also had this question and panicked when I first read it but then realised that at the end of the question they gave you the building blocks for discussion. I set the question up with each of the headers and then commented on each point. For example financial performance I used Operating Profit & discussed why it might be good/bad.

Does anyone remember their result at part C variance exercise? For Mix and Yield with Alpha Beta GammaIm not sure how right I am , But i got the usage variance to equal mix plus yield variance, which I hope is the better thing.
The figures i got were
Mix= 333 F
Yield= 913 A
usage 580 ASeptember 6, 2018 at 1:35 pm #471833@sammacd My thought process was exactly the same! Read the Section C questions first and could only remember 4 of the measures, but then realised they had provided them in the question.
I think the examiner was asking you to create your own performance indicators that made for fair comparision between each service centre. So for financial performance I used profit against number of employees at each centre. I definitely spent longer trying to get the 16 marks than worry about the 4 for the standards and rewards, think I only wrote two sentences for that 😮
My other section C question was the material variances for Alpha Betta Gamma which I was equally scared of. I hated variances when studying as there were so many different proformas to remember and easy to mix them up. I just did a quick table for each and showed my working clearly, but I’m not confident they were right. The second part of the question was a lot easier to approach. Most of the argumentative points were included in the question (material cost and mix standard outdated, lack of feedback on variances, not including production manager in target setting = low morale, lack of goal congruence, etc), so I think I picked up marks there.
All in all I think I might have scraped a 51%… at least I hope so!
This is also my first exam I’ve had to wait for the results for. 6 weeks is too long!!! Good luck everyone!
September 6, 2018 at 2:18 pm #471857Guys, lets properly discuss the exams questions one by one to make sure whats wrong and whats right.
I am beginning from the first MCQ which was related to operational and financial gearing. I think we didnt cover operating gearing in study text of BPP. the answer i chose was that X is higher in operation, Y is higher in financial.
there was learning curve true/false, the first was true for me saying that 90% learning curve means better performance than 90%. the other part of the question i dont remember.
the other question asking for the learning rate of the first product i couldnt calculate it and just wrote 64%.
demand equation i wrote P=26250-0.25Q I guess
the other MCQ was optimum selling price which i selected 5.3 i guess where MR ~ MC.
does anyone remember what figure stated for achieving maximum profit of 286m$. i just selected 1043k i guess.
mix and yield variance MCQ was 200 favourable and 1550 adverse, right?
demand question answer was demand lower that 450 and revenue lower than 1000?
which pricing is best – I chose cost plus and market skimming
for open systems multiple choice i chose points 1 and 3.
for decreasing cost gap – i selected the variants except to use standard materials for entire range of products.
for theory of constraints i selected to keep costs minimum and smth else.
there was question about clean up – i wrote contingent costs.
how about the question about life-cycle costing?
which doesnt help uncertainty – simulation??
Any other questions some remember?
I had Section C questions related to breakeven, contributions, and building blocks . building blocks i didnt wrote well as i couldnt reach to study the chapter, just wrote some descriptions for each dimension.
September 6, 2018 at 3:04 pm #471869The wait for results seem way too long.
First attempt.
Sec B was okayish I thought.
With learning rate question, and maximising profit price setting.Sec C im a bit worried.
Hope for the best.September 6, 2018 at 9:01 pm #471961@ashey007 said:
I could not understand that rolling budgets question either. In my study material there wasn’t many questions on rolling budgets and the only time I cane across them was in theory style questions – I am surprised they had a full computational question on it. I had a question on Fitzgerald and Moon aswell which I had very little to say on. Not happy at allI had the same in part C. So disappointed. Did not pay to much attention Fitzgerald and Moon it was like shooting in the darkness and lost easy 20 marks, the question was like in the Kaplan study book page 431-435. Second question in part C were material mix, yield and usage variances – I did poorly as well. In general part A and B mainly about ABC, pricing, risk and uncertainty and quantitative analysis.
September 6, 2018 at 11:12 pm #471719In part C I had question about Fitzgerald and Moon (20 marks) – which I did very poorly, did not pay to much attention during my study and lost very easy 20 marks – questions was very similar like in Kaplan study books page 431-435.
Second part of section C was mix variance, yield variance and mat usage variance and mat price – which I did again poorly plus to explain problems of variances.
Part A and B majority question were ABC, Rick and uncertainty, budgeting and quantitative analysis.September 7, 2018 at 2:20 am #471992i got the same answer
September 7, 2018 at 2:38 am #471993I did not see any variance question in 31 and 31 for f5, please can you confirm it was the same exame? I did paper based.
September 7, 2018 at 8:08 am #472023It was a kind of strange exam for myself. I studied a lot for it but for every answer you give you always have doubts whether you answered correctly. I don’t remember anything for Section A but i did have a lot of theory. Section B – Rolling Budgets and Pricing were not that very difficult, i felt i did pretty good here. Target costing in section B was quite complicated, i did not do any questions where you needed to reduce the selling price. Section C i had the Breakeven analysis and Building Blocks. First part of breakeven analysis I managed to arrive at the contribution and Fixed costs (I hope) but for some reason when i came to work out the Breakeven in sales revenue, i couldnt quite make it. Part 2 of this question i cruised through so i feel from 8 marks i should get at least 5 or 6. Building Block I was not prepared for it but since you needed to comment and compare on the performance with given titles, i managed to comment as much as i could on each title related with the scenario to try and score marks here. The last question for 4 marks I did not manage to finish it.
September 7, 2018 at 8:13 am #472028As for the excel, they should just freaking scrap it, because it is losing students a lot of precious time. At least make it similar to the AAT where you are allowed to use a normal spreadsheet software and then you can upload it on the exam.
September 7, 2018 at 9:37 am #472036@azamali Omg I seem to remember I got the same result as you! 🙂 thanks for the reply
September 7, 2018 at 1:10 pm #472064September 7, 2018 at 2:14 pm #472075I got the same answer as well just dont remember which one was fav and which adverse but same numbers definitely
September 7, 2018 at 10:35 pm #472243@Tai Wo. They must have done the CBE bcos I didnt see ant variance question is 31 and 32, I did f5 paper base too
September 11, 2018 at 9:42 pm #473531Thanks for the good ideas to bring it. I know a lot more. [URL=”https://ufabet-group.com”%5D ?????????????,???????????????[/URL] 🙂 :J
September 12, 2018 at 1:11 pm #474222Was not ready at all for the exam! Although the study material was good I don’t feel that I studied enough. I got very nervous towards the exam and had no focus. I am 99.9% certain that I failed 🙁
