Parts A and B were testing but straightforward – part C was tough with both Transfer pricing and incremental costing questions containing a lot of info to digest is the time available -did anyone else get the same questions??I had the same questions. There was just too much to read!! I didn’t like the mix of multiple choice q’s either. Definite fail!!
March 6, 2019 at 4:58 pm #508111I got to the point where I was obviously just making things up. Would’ve preferred budgeting and variances.

Yes I got the same. How did you approach the incremental costing question on the Hotel & Water Park?Hotel and Water Park………….Anyone can suggest how the marking break up would be
March 6, 2019 at 5:14 pm #508116In the MCQ Section A – there was a question on what protection can the company put in place to prevent employee gainig unauthrosied access to it… What was the answer???
I put encryption and firewall – Not spyware…
This is bugging me
March 6, 2019 at 6:17 pm #508124Hi – you never know you may pick up enough marks. I think it’s silly that the question wording is designed to confuse – I recognise its to challenge candidates but one question was more about trying to understand what was being said rather than testing application of skill.

I got to the point where I was obviously just making things up. Would’ve preferred budgeting and variances. This was section c in a nutshell for me (bed and mattresses and the resort questions). Had no idea as to how to go about answering them and just froze, so I’d say I’m looking at 5 marks out of the 40. Fairly confident that if variance or financial/non-financial performance came up I’d be getting close to 50% in that section. They’re the breaks you get I guess.

Hi Alina – I had the same section C Qs. I Got really confused with water park/Hotel one so I’m sure i will have only picked up a few marks for method/the easier revenue/cost lines. For transfer pricing I reached a different conclusion – that both managers would prefer to trade externally to benefit their divisions revenue but marginal cost for the company to produce mattresses was lower that the external purchase price so that both managers would benefit but the company was worse off ? Not sure if I misunderstood the scenario or not?
Robert, I think I had about 5 minutes of only thinking from where to start on the hotel question, is done anyway, hopefully we will get some marks. I stated to close the Hotel for the January and keep the water park open as the overall loss according to my calculations was the less than having them both closed or both open…
Q2 I think we have the similar answer as the profit was higher for the company if was to buy the mattress from the external supplier… this was my first attempt, tomorrow I’ll have a second try on F7….
March 6, 2019 at 6:46 pm #508129Alina – my first attemp to, I think your answer sounds most probable so well done for deciphering the question better than I managed. And good luck with F7 tomorrow:-)

I got this question to… I totally made it up – not sure what i did was correct. What i did was for each (hotel and water park) i listed out the revenue less relevant costs to come to a total net figure???
Is this how it was supposed to be done?
Same here just listed the revenue and costs in different scenarios and analyse at the end…I hope they have mercy on us and give us some marks…:))
March 6, 2019 at 6:58 pm #508131Yes, I did not do incremental at all.Truth is I didn’t even know where to start.
March 6, 2019 at 7:05 pm #508132A similar question to Beds and Mattresses is in past paper March/June 2018 on the ACCA website.
March 6, 2019 at 7:17 pm #508134Hi I have the same ans adv price 3975 for planning
For operation 710 favUsage 1600 adv for planning
600 adv for operationAnd 3rd part of this question ans was the revised price which they should budgeted for next month
March 6, 2019 at 7:30 pm #508135I am slightly confused – I had absolutely different questions in C section. The first one was about optimum production plan, the second – about RI and ROI.
Variances were tested in B section in my exam variant. No learning effect or risk were tested in exam.
March 6, 2019 at 7:35 pm #508136Hi Khilen
Yeah I toyed with this answer for a while! I picked the first option about having it encrypted. The other options pushed towards protecting the company as a whole but the question specifically related to how to protect just the spreadsheets going to to head office and not the company as a whole! It could be wrong. Haha

How did you get loss for hotel? did you multiply with 31 days of January, since data was given on per night basis.. I had got profit for both of them

March 6, 2019 at 7:47 pm #508139I had both as profitable – I remember multiplying by 31 days which I nearly missed initially as it wasn’t needed to arrive at revenue for the water park if I recall correctly. The challenge with these discussions is to start worrying when you realise you have a different or possibly wrong conclusion to someone else. Hopefully the ‘own number’ rule means we can all relax, so even if we’ve missed the initial mark we will benefit from our commentary on these calculations where they’re valid – fingers crossed ?
March 6, 2019 at 7:56 pm #508140The same happened to me. I almost missed the 31 days however after seeing these comments it makes me feel a little bit better. Also did anyone put 0 for the security and the electricity as there would be no changes if the hotel and waterpark remained opened or closed?

Was it the same one about how the employee used the finance director’s log-in detail and accidentally sent staff salaries details to everyone?
The answer should be granting the employee with different level of access on data records.

I had got profit for both of themI used the 31 days, but I am getting confused now as there were 31 days* 120 rooms/ $100 but the usual occupancy was 90% and from that January you had to reduce the price per room with 30%, even on this bases your occupancy was only 50% and I can’t remember is was another factor, but with all the costs adjustments I had a lost in both situation on the hotel…I can remember that if the hotel close the only cost that was zero was for the water… Probably I misread the all question…:(
Guys don’t mind me I realised only now that I probably missed to multiply by 31…I know I had it in my mind during the exam and probably was thinking that I did…March 6, 2019 at 8:23 pm #508146That’s how I captured them and stated that assumption under the £0, as I noticed this was referenced in previous examiner feedback as missed marks for similar questions
March 6, 2019 at 8:31 pm #508148Try not to worry Alina – it sounds like you got most of it right. Use the learning for F7 tomorrow – it’s so easy to miss little details under pressure.
March 6, 2019 at 8:37 pm #508149this is good to hear. I only put the 0’s did not get to mention why as I was rushing for time. Also for the other part of the question with thoughts to consider before making the decision what were some of you guys responses cause I felt unsure about that as well. I spoke about the safety of having the water park open and how it will affect staff working hours

I got the same for usage variance 1600 adverse planning & 600 adverse operational.
However I believe for price variance I got 710 favourable in terms of operational but 1775 planning.
Good luck
