Hey Fiona,
Thanks for your reply. Which study text you referred? bpp or kaplan?

I commend your commitment. But honestly, should it have to be this rigid to pass one exam? ACCA need to be more realistic when setting these exams

Hi Khalid
I used BPP study text. I can’t comment on Kaplan as I have not used any of their books previously.
Happy reading!

56% Passed in 5th attempt.
July 21, 2016 at 8:53 pm #328267Passed – 81%. A really tough paper and I know I made some stupid errors, but being disciplined with timing and attempting every part of each question must have served me well.
July 24, 2016 at 11:57 pm #328720For those asking for study technique i did all of acca self study and took same approach. Read though study material (Bpp – full of typos and only stuck with it from superstion) twice for each subject and then just did as many questions a possible.
If you don enough questions then you should get enough knowelage to get follow though marks.

I failed with 49% this was my 3rd attempt and it is my last exam – I am gutted 🙁
I sent this off for an admin review (as encouraged by my tutor) and basically I have just been robbed of £52 waste of time – I don’t even think they actually looked as my paper! So I guess I am back to the books and resitting in September 🙁
Any tips??? According to my tutor & mocks etc technique and timings I am okay at so I assume I just have to try and learn the whole damn subject back to front!
July 28, 2016 at 3:58 pm #330008Hi Pant01
I agree with Alison56 in terms of timing. This was my first “P” paper and I came out thoroughly distraught and have spent the last 5 weeks revising in preparation for re-sit in Sept. I managed 71% (serious total shock) and put the majority down to strict timing. I took one look at the 11 mark question on Q1 and went into panic mode for the next 3 1/4 hours.
However, I think my saving grace was to leave that part of the paper to the very very end and complete everything else according to strict time limits. I finished with around 2 minutes to spare and concentrated (on that 11 mark part) on the easier elements – i.e. the NIC calculations which must have earned a few marks.
I also chose the 2 choice questions far too quickly and in hindsight would have chosen Q5 over one the others – again, another lesson learned. Nerves got the better of me in a bad way for the first time (due it being the first P paper) so again….another lesson learned.
I studied through the BPP distance learning and the lectures were excellent (probably the best I’ve experienced from all BPP courses to date). I then purchased Kaplan revision kit and pretty much covered all questions in the BPP and Kaplan revision kits. We all have our own learning styles but for me (as Adam says) question practice is the major one. I try to get through the learning stage as quickly as possible and then focus on question practice, question practice, question practice as I find this is the best way to focus on the areas of weakness.
Hope your next attempt sees you through to membership…I’ve got another 4 papers to go yet so I’d rather be in your position (looking on the bright side!).
Kind Regards
Chris
July 28, 2016 at 4:02 pm #330009Congrats Hanna
I have a 2 year old daughter and work fall time so I feel your pain! I’m very lucky to have a very supportive wife so I get to study 3 nights a week and for 4 hours at a weekend. I spent my lunch times doing the F8 which worked out ok too! I couldn’t agree more with your comments though – start as early as possible and have a plan. I’m sitting P1 in June and am 2/3 of the way through OT lectures before my BPP distance learning starts on 22nd Aug. Then it will be onto evenings and weekends etc from Sept. You’re brave going directly from textbooks but clearly your hard work has paid off – many congratulations again.
July 30, 2016 at 2:43 pm #330281Passed with first attempt. I am an affiliate now. Big thanks to OT.
