Honestly thought this was the hardest ACCA exam I’ve had to take so far. Somehow passed with 62! Only two to go now.

72 first attempt – still in shock as I only did like 80% of the paper. I self studied and had no brought forward knowledge from F6 because of my exemptions. Goes to show that P6 is passable with a lot of commitment and determination.

88%, completely surprised myself!
For those who have been asking how to pass, my tactic is to thoroughly read through the study text (I use BPP but I’m sure Kaplan is just as good) and then go through the practice and revision kit (a large selection of past paper questions) at least twice. I put in about 20 hours a week studying most weeks, which feels crazy when I’m also working a 40 hour week, but I’ve not failed one yet.

will it be easy to self study P6 and if yes how long will it need?

I was just going to post the same. You need to practice a lot of questions and study the entire text. Yes P6 self study is doable but you need to have the discipline and commitment to put in at least 3 hours every day. Also, visit the HMRC websites. All the topics are on there with detailed explanation on how to apply the rules.
January 16, 2017 at 12:16 pm #367531Congrats all who have passed!
Those who haven’t I’m really sorry to hear it must be really hard but please hang in there you’re so close to final destination than you think.
May be next time is yours!Start studying sometimes this week, just do some question practice before you start the full course. See how much of the rules you can remember & allocate time to study / revise based on it.
Allocate at least 50% time available from now on for question & past paper practices. If you’re clueless about a question , don’t look at answer go through the notes find the relevant section read through what you needed to know but you didn’t to attempt that question and then find the answer to the question yourself or at least get closer to it.
This is my personal way of studying / practicing it might not suit everyone. The very best of luck !

Ps I’ve passed first time with 58% btw didn’t think I would though as I more or less completely missed a 20 mark question.whatever you do please please stick to time try attempt all question pls don’t dwell on Q1, I felt such an idiot as the question I didn’t have time to attempt seemed lot easier or at least an area I was comfortable with.. was so gutted wanted to bang my head on wall. Would’ve done so today if I failed it.

57 third attempt, I had very weak hope, and pleased now. Very big volume of paper.
January 16, 2017 at 12:47 pm #367552I passed with 65%, my highest scoring P paper!
I failed with 35% last time, so if you have failed, please don’t give up. Question practice and exam technique are key. The answers in the back of the book follow a very logical approach so I mastered this technique. For example, inheritance tax questions, always start with CLT’s and then work to the PETs and then the death estate. You also get marks for stating what I always thought was obvious so didn’t bother in my previous attempt!

Hi Amna,
I did P6 in just under 3 months. I started studying for it almost straight after my exam in Sep 16. I aim to read the study text in 6 weeks and then for the next 6 weeks I practice questions, so as Iana345 said above, you need to spend 50% of your time on practicing questions. And xolile is right too, you’ve got to be looking at 3 hours a day, every day. Some things I do which help me are studying for an hour before work and putting one day aside at the weekend to study, every weekend. I’ve become a pretty unsociable person but I think that’s the sacrifice you have to make, at least it’s only for a few years! I was told it was hard before I started studying, but I never thought it would be this hard!
January 16, 2017 at 1:07 pm #367568I failed for the 5th time (47,37,48,37 and this December 38). I have the knowledge but always find Q1 throws me – For example this sitting I have not seen a similar structure for December Q1 in the revision kits. I am thinking of switching to Audit self study has anyone switched and had better results. This is my final paper and I don’t know what more I can do in terms of the amount of work I have put in!
