This paper was so lenghty and the wording was so lame and misleading that is impossible to complete in 3 hours.
Not sure what the P5 examiner is trying to achieve but I’m 100% sure that the examiner himself on similar type questions, under exam conditions will not be able to score more than 60 marks with a push.
How does he expect than someone to score 50 and to pass the paper if the maximum achieveable target in my view in 3 hours is no more than 60 marks.
And yes to be even worse this is P5 Performance management where targets need to be achieveable and they are not on this paper.
I know one thing for sure and that is he is not testing our knowledge.
In the real world you have time to think about and answer.
I’m sure if the exam is face to face I will pass with no problem and this should in theory be more difficult than on the wrtten paper.
Obviously his intentions are to fail as many students as possible and ACCA are tolerating this which is ridiculous.June 8, 2017 at 1:37 am #391652This was my second attempt and it was a disaster. I studied hard for this exam and I feel defeated. All my previous exams I passed the first time. Now I am down to the last two and I cant do it. The questions was long and detailed and there wasn’t enough time to answer the questions. I wrote something for each question though. Really wasn’t expecting so much on budgeting and that ROCE calculation was complicated, I got lost and I knew I calculated wrong but there was not enough time to figure what I did wrong and fix it. Some questions seem vague, I didn’t know what the examiner expected us to write. aye, I hope I did enough for the 50%.

I have spent 10days …10 hours per day, practising 82 problems, plus I have read the courses from an ACCA provider, plus ca notes from open tuition, plus some technical articles and still I didn’t have any time to think and finish the problems…I think it is a fail, the first from all the P exams
June 8, 2017 at 6:59 am #391623I did ABC for healthy. There were problems in the cost for healthy one of the appendices. ZBB for basic, mentioned although it was a stable market but cost reduction was one of the main new strategic objectives, ZBB would support that. Rolling for kids. Can’t remember what I did for PD. I think it was ZBB.
June 8, 2017 at 7:33 am #391704The examiner is should get understanding of the Building Block Model that targets should be achievable , motivating, fair, claear…here in exams nothing is achievable, motivating and fair bla bla…even didnt understand what some wording from scnario…
June 8, 2017 at 8:36 am #391744P5 is tough and frustrating. I did the 3rd attempt and hope it went well.
But I highly appreciated it toughness. For some paper like P3, I pass even without understanding topic. But for P5, i must understand the topic from inside out. It took me 2 times the time I spent for other papers
Some topic like Performance Prism, linking strategy to stakeholder, process, resources really widen my horizon, which is quite limited even after I passed some papers
June 8, 2017 at 8:49 am #391755what a disaster, a total flip in terms of the Q1. no past papers had such a question
June 8, 2017 at 8:57 am #391760I agree question 2 was was needlessly confusing, ROCE is so basic but this impressions business just wasted a lot of time.
June 8, 2017 at 12:33 pm #391800That makes two of us 🙂
June 8, 2017 at 5:19 pm #391907I truly think this exam is doomed, there is a sort of malediction. I sat at my desk at the ExCel centre, thought “oh new, comfy, chairs” and pinched a nerve. I fainted, it happened twice in the past, it is a fuse for my body when there is intense pain. Paramedic came and I started the exam 30 minutes later. It was complete chaos, I only read the questions, hardly the texts, only appendixes, and I attempted all of them. I am really curious about the result. It is unfortunate as I took and passed 10 exams in three sittings and this was the only one remaining. That is why, as many of you, I truly believe in some kind of malediction. I may even switch to P6, not trying a second attempt.
June 9, 2017 at 10:37 am #392129Q1 part (v) was about changing role of management accountant and linking to the scenario for introducing ERPS for 11 marks.
complete disaster. too much to read and think about in limited time.
June 9, 2017 at 10:56 am #392130first attempt. complete disaster. I completely agree with you, its a test of English and decision making skills to choose the right question rather than test of your knowledge and application of P5
June 9, 2017 at 12:11 pm #392152How about a bit ‘Bounded Rationality’ when preparing these exams?

very tricky and different exam style without warning was disastrous for me but it was oaky
June 9, 2017 at 4:19 pm #392201I kept incremental for Basic suggesting quickly some Kaizen to shake up a bit the managers, ABC for Healthy as rolling proved its limits, ZBB for KIDS (I can’t figure why I did it) and ZBB for PD. It was not obvious honestly. ROCE was fine although I did minor mistakes. The bonus scheme of question 4 was tricky and I elaborated two sets of KPIs per S.
June 9, 2017 at 4:32 pm #392205I hope this time examiner wont say ” student dont listen to me” in his report for this exam.
June 9, 2017 at 5:33 pm #392271I received the exam feedback email from ACCA today, and I did give my honest feedback on this P5 paper!!

This is my 2nd attempt and I honestly think i did better last time.
I think Q2-Q4 were way too long to read and digest
Before reading the posts on Open tuition i did think ‘What is the examiner trying to ask?’ cos i feel there were a alot of information in the question which i couldn’t refer to. Does that mean i haven’t answered the question.
I agree that this exam is quite different to previous sitting.
Really hope i did enough

I didn’t understand the ROCE at all either and ran out of time! Was there capital employed stated at all?
June 10, 2017 at 1:15 pm #392492It was a shocker of an exam! It seemed to be a different syllabus!
I’ve completed the feedback to the ACCA. I don’t normally reply as all the previous exams have been fair but I thought this was an extremely unreasonable exam.
I don’t expect to be handed an easy paper but I do expect a fighting chance.
The March/June 17 sample exam questions are on the ACCA website. Looking at question 1, it’s in line with the syllabus and only 2 pages long. That wasn’t the case on Wednesday with 4 pages!
I’ve enrolled on a revision course for September already as the June sitting is dead in the water. However, a revision course wouldn’t have changed the outcome for the June sitting so I’m hoping the examiner will set a fairer paper for September.
