Fail 4 times. 45 42 44 44. This is getting frustrated. So close but so far. I dont want to give up, but I dont know how to start over. I feel like I understand the subjects very well, and I’ve done the exam well, but the finish line is getting further.

For all those students who are not successful this time my advice to them would be to keep trying, work on exam technique and have a simple and clear approach when answering to the requirements of the questions set. This is definitely a do-able exam if I can pass it in first attempt then anybody can. I was wondering when I started studying towards this paper in Oct 2016 right after my P3 exam result that whether I could ever pass this paper. I started P level journey after a gap of 8 years in my studies I never studied F5 I did basic calculations incorrectly in my Q1-C however I stick to an understandable approacc stated my assumptions clearly wherever it was possible for me to state them whether in conclusion or in clising remarks. I still believe I am not a performance management expert even after passing P5 but good exam technique definitely goes a long way. I attempted 100% of the paper and wrote till the last line on the last page of my answer booklet. I don’t agree with those who says write less to score effectively this is not the case with me I always write a lot in my exam especially in answering Q1 that gives me confidence and a chance to come into my get it done zone where I make strong punchy sentences for remaiming questions. Never leave any part of any question unaddressed. I made countless errors in my answer booklet but my advice would be to never deviate from the requirement of the question.
Luck plays a big role too, 1 20 mark question on BCG matrix was really my piece of cake tweakinh my P3 knowledge according to P5 could have been well rewarded.
For all those who have been put off by listening to those who say you can’t do it P5 first time or with a kniwledge gap hope you find it useful.

Maybe it is my poor time management that cause my failure, in my last 4 sittings, I have never finished 100% questions, best is 80%, maybe if I was able to complete 100%, I would have passed with a 50 at least. πŸ™

Thank you Lord Jesus, this was my 5th attempt (I’m now an affiliate). Thank you also Open Tuition. For those who stuggled like me, I also went to to Accountancy School i.e. for their re-sit classes.
Please note that if you are not successful, it means that their may be / are things that are not clear in your mind and, thus, you need clarity on those areas in this paper.

Please try Accountancy School i.e. as well as Open Tuition.

Dont give up my dear. What I believe will help you alot to pass P5 is
1.pay attention to the examiners style of answering questions. Look at the pass exams at the end of a couple of hours studying. Just take your time compare the style from one answer of the same topic to the other you will definitely see what he what when he ask a question on a particular area.
2.get to the finish line. If you attempt all questions, you maximise your chance.
3.have a good grasp of the modules. With that, when you are running out of time, blasting the module with brief explanation will hand you makes which will make the difference between 48or 49 and 50.
4.dont be panic with the plenty information given to you. As a general exam techniques you read the requirements first. From that point you will be able to have a clue to the scenario. While reading now just focus on it tip .By that you filter so much information to help you pass.
Have a feeling that you are capable of passing. That is key because coming all the way to the p papers shows that you are capable just need to get few things right.
    Wish you all the best.

you might be failing the exam itself.if you understand and have covered every thing, the problem could be on understanding the question itself.make sure you practice on understanding questions.not on knowing answers to a lot of questions because if they do not appear as you know them it will be a challenge.

Finally passed the dreaded P5 after several attempts. Do not give up people!!

I’ve always been good at time management in the exam – i am very strict about writing on the exam sheet the time i have to finish each element of the question, and previously I always used the 15 minutes reading time to read Q1.

This time i took the advice of a Kaplan tutor (was revising for P3). On both papers i used the 15 minute reading time in this order
    1. IGNORE question 1
    2. scan the requirement of the option questions ie Q2, Q3 qnd Q4.
    3. pick the two you are going to attempt.
    4. read through each scenario and write BRIEF notes on answer ideas for each section of the Q. it may just be that you identify a model – if so quickly write down the bits of the model you can remember – it probably wont be all of it DONT worry, move on
This is probably your 15 minutes up – but it means you are tackling the 2 option Q’s with a fresh mind
    5. Now go to Q1 read the first paragraph so you know broadly what the company does.
    6. Read the Q requirements carefully
    7. Analyse how the marks for each element are broken down. ie if 12 marks for evaluate and suggest …. you are likely to doing 6 marks for the evaluate and 6 marks for the suggest
    8. read the scenario – noting down thoughts as you go
    9. Now work out how much time you have left of your 90 minutes for Q1 and divide you time accordingly. and write your answer
    10. NEVER over run on time. If you have spare time at the end then go back. Leave a page of space if necessary

This may seem quite long winded but you get the reassurance of arriving at you first option Q with an idea of how you are going to answer it.

You can also practice the analyzing of mark allocations when do revision question practice.

And finally there is no substitution for Q practice. I would recommend you do any from your revision kit that involve numbers as in the exam these will gain you marks the quickest. Practice the same revision Q several times if you need to.

I understand your pain if you haven’t passed this time. Due to life events and a full time job its taken me 6 years to pass my P level papers. Stick with it. I am now an affiliate and my word it feels GREAT!

    Good luck everyone πŸ™‚

I failed P5 for the 3rd time. What’s worse is I have no idea where I went wrong, so am changing papers and will do P6 end of this year. My mark went down on my previous 2 attempts.

Finally passed after 6 attempts of missing by just 2 or 3 marks; a 50 pas but just happy its a positive result at last.

To all those experiencing similar multiple failures, I know how you feel it can be pretty demoralising, but don’t give up you’ve come to far.
I would say if you can – rather than dive straight into the next session, have a break and skip one so you have the extra time to review your notes & practice some past paper question papers.
If you have another paper to take do that one first and come back to P5, You may find that passing another paper in between helps you get your confidence back. It helped me.

    Good Luck to everyone

I have written most of my acca papers once and passed and the biggest advice I can give you is tackle as many past papers as you can and make sure you understand what you are doing or why the examiner answers questions the way he does. Also constantly use your study text for reference and well google. In no time you begin to notice repetition and can almost answer a question on your own. Well that’s how I passed p5 hope I’m helping someone out there
