I found the exam difficult, finish the 3question on time.
I did not find a weakness as well. However I thought there was a mention that customers paid a deposit then had to pay the rest in instalments so I assumed there might be a chance of defaultJune 7, 2018 at 6:31 pm #457610I forgot to write “REPORT” at the top of the report for Q1a ,but wrote all other components in respect of the format such as
To:
From:
Date:
Subject
Introduction
Headings and short paragraphs and
Conclusion.
Would I lose any of the professional marks relating to the format ?June 7, 2018 at 8:04 pm #457629I don’t know if I put in enough points, the scenarios didn’t have much information just hoping for the best
June 7, 2018 at 8:06 pm #457630Hey guys a little off topic here, during the last 30mins of the exam my black pen gave up on me and for some reason I didn’t think of asking a possible spare one from the invigilator so I resolve to using a pencil! I know the rules stated very clearly but I was wondering could it be scanned anyway? I wrote as hard as I can and it looks very visible to me but not sure how it will shows up on the scanner.

Why don’t you bring at least 2 or even 3 black pens with you to the exam? I even have 2 calculators and 3 pens on me just in case.
June 7, 2018 at 9:51 pm #457657Only able to manage to answer for 75%. Don’t know what will happen?
June 8, 2018 at 1:42 am #457680For me. It was time pressure. I did not finished Q2(b) adv/disadv. Manage to write only one point for both. For the Swot weaknesses, I wrote the calculation low part. And high part for strength.
SAF- for acceptability, I also wrote the calculation for Vlease.

June 8, 2018 at 4:49 am #457694It was ok to me, as it is not difficult this time, compared to previous past papers.
Guess most of us would choose to answer Q1,Q2 &Q4.Q1 is quite straight forward, SWOT & TOWS matrix, I thought it could be PESTEL and 5 Forces questions will come out in Q1.
SAF is also not that difficult. Only need to write more on Suitability.Q2 came out before for Software Package evaluation, selection & implement. – Usually I will answer through Harmon Process Matrix, Business Case, Define Requirement, Proper Tendering, Evaluate of Suppliers, Implementation Issue.
Advantage of COTS – Cheaper, Quick, Reliability, Less errors, Be able to gain competitive advantage of Industry Practice.Q4. 5 forces come out in this question, just wrote as more as I can, disadvantage & advantage for acquisition, just roughly described – quick to enter into market, expensive, culture disruption.
June 8, 2018 at 5:33 am #457696Q1 I wrote the Government funding as a weakness. Thinking there would be competition with FLC. As per the data they were also into public funding and the figures were on an increasing trend. So I thought the government funding would affect that. I’m not sure if this is correct though
Q4 – I think the competition for new entrants was tough cuz the big three were dominating the market. Also there were these groups who were encouraging home food or something I believe.
Existing competition, suppliers, customers and substitutes were a little straight forwardJune 8, 2018 at 8:22 am #457721Hi
I was thinking along the same lines!!!June 8, 2018 at 8:58 am #457738Hello all, i forgot to write “REPORT” at the top of the report in Q1a but wrote all the other components relation to the format such as :

Would i lose any professional mark relating to the format ?i believe professional mark is given based on the overall structure as well. Appropriate headings (REPORT) is also one of the requirements. There is actually an article written by the p3 examining team on how they assess the professional marks
June 8, 2018 at 9:54 am #457755Had such a nightmare of an exam! So gutted considering its the last sitting and I will lose my P1.
I dont know why but for 1c I wrote the adv and disadv of the potential acq when I should of used the SFA model
Did not have enough time for Q2 and Q4.
Really disappointed in myself considering how much better I could have done.
June 8, 2018 at 10:48 am #457763It was a bit fair compared to the previous ones.
I forgot to put a date on the report.not sure how many marks that carries.
My only worry is that i will loose p1 if i fail this p3 exam. That will be sad for me.
Hoping for the bestJune 8, 2018 at 10:51 am #457766I have never finished any ACCA exam in my life but I do pass even by attempting 75% of the question.I remember answering only q1 and Q2 in p1 but i passed.
June 8, 2018 at 1:19 pm #457793Hi Meena,
Whichever model you have used as long as you extracted and made analysis from the case and explain the rationale/ valid points for the same, you will be collecting marks.
In P3, there may not be a standard answer for the case studies. You will be assessed on your analysis skills and how you have made use of information provided and derived any conclusion along with plausible assumption.
I guess thats the main criteria the examiner would be assessing us with.
June 8, 2018 at 3:21 pm #457818Did anyone else do Question 3?
June 8, 2018 at 7:20 pm #457952If I pass P3 will be so happy.
Other wise I will loose my p1 .
Disappointing and jut leaving ACCA.June 8, 2018 at 7:28 pm #457953Even if I get 50% will be so happy.
Otherwise I will loose my p1.??June 8, 2018 at 7:33 pm #457956I’m in a same situation.
And only answered 75% Marks.???June 8, 2018 at 8:07 pm #457965Can someone who had done porter’s 5 forces question shows how they answered.
June 10, 2018 at 12:37 pm #458182Decent paper i think, but not enough time!!!!
June 10, 2018 at 6:45 pm #458200I think ACCA had been very gentle this time (due to this sitting being last). Questions are from the most common areas and quite straightforward. However, it seems most people found financial information in question 1 confusing.
Q1. SWOT, TOWS and SAF analysis were the requirements. I think we were supposed to use financial figures for most weaknesses and strengths. Also, some opportunities and strengths could be assumed if it is logical and fits the scenario which is what I had done.
I struggled a bit with TOWS as it should link to my SWOT.Q2. 1st requirement was software selection process.I hope I answered well enough but not sure. 2nd requirement was a decent attempt as it was simply justifying off-the-shelf software rather than bespoke.
Q4. was straightforward Porter’s 5 forces model for 18 marks (I thought it was just a treat for us) and JV vs acquisition advantages and disadvantages (again not too complex).
Q3. i decided not to choose as it was a bit tough than others to my mind. But it was about portfolio management, benefits realisation, etc.
I hope we’ll all pass! Good luck to all student with their qualification and career goals!
