    Hello Sir,

I am doing P3 for the very first time from open tuition. I have completed 8 chapters until now and looking forward to give an attempt in march. I would really appreciate if you could let me know the best approach to study p3. Should I buy the Kaplan text book or the open tuition notes are enough ? and should I start the exam kit from now only or wait until I complete the entire portion?

The OpenTuition notes and lectures are enough. You do not need a text book.

However, It is very important to look at lots of questions. You can download exams back to 2010 from the ACCA web-site, or you can buy a revision kit form, say BPP (if you go through this site you get a discount). Revision kits often provide more analysis about the question and how to approach answering it.

This is primarily an exam in which you apply theories and methods to questions and that is why practising questions is so important. You are rarely, if ever, asked to simply describe a theory.

I would start doing some questions now, just to see how to approach them. You can download an analysis of questions up to June 2015 here:

    https://opentuition.com/articles/p3/acca-p3-exam-analysis/

and this will allow you to find suitable questions for each topic.

    Thank you very much Sir.

I would buy an exam kit and start looking and practicing the questions.

One last questions. regarding the notes on p3, its mainly about understanding the models right or should we memorize the whole model? and apart from this models are there any other areas of the syllabus which we need to memorize and learn?. Like you said we have to apply the theory, so it should be the “learned theory” or to apply the theory based on the scenario?

    Thank you in advance

Well, to apply the model you really have to know it. An awareness is not enough.

You apply the model to the scenario to help you solve whatever issue has been raised.

Make sure you revise F5 material and can carry out investment appraisal from F9. Covered in the last 6 chapters of the notes.

Well Sir, I am exempted from f5, so I presume last 6 chapter are enough for f5 and f9.?

    Should be.

There is also an article on this site about essential F5 and F9 skills for P3. Largely repeats the chapters in the notes.
