It is really so sad, but I passed on first attempt with self study.

What I did studied text book once properly and note down all important points and definitions.

Secondly I practiced past exam papers from 2010 till Dec 2014.

So I suggest you practice past exam papers, there you get the idea how to answer questions.

Hope you pass it next time.

I fail P1 on second attempt, but I expect can pass as 80% of question I know how to answer and confidence than my first attempt. I have 100% confidence that I can pass, but the mark even lower than my first attempt with only 26%.

Is possible for ACCA to calculate mark wrongly or they did not mark properly as their procedure become faster to release the result, because they want students to apply for September session?Or they just want to cheating students money?

Anyone has this issue? I had request for reviewing because I really did not believe I fail.
How long the review result will come out?

Patrick, I know how you feel.

I just sat P1 in June, did absolutely everything for it, could not have been more prepared… Came out thinking that the exam was really nice, I planned every question, stuck to time, used headers, even went on to a second answer booklet…

    And I only got 37%!

I requested a review, but nothing ever changes.
They won’t send your script back, and the only extra information they give is whether you passed or failed each question you attempted.
And that’s not even parts of questions, but the question as a whole,
And it only says “pass” or “fail”, not even the mark, so it’s really no help at all.

I have been reviewing the paper along with the examiners report to try and work out where I went wrong.
There are a few suspect areas, but I still really can’t work out how I scored so low…

Frustrated, but will try again in September.

As I said above, I have been reviewing the exam, and the model answer against the examiners report.

There are a few areas that I am not totally happy with.

Firstly, question 1)b) Criticise Amy’s behaviour as an FD and a qualified accountant…
To me, that just screamed PIPCO and the fundamental principles of qualified accountants.
I remember saying how she had failed against these principles.
However, this was the “wrong approach”, and would not have scored many marks.
    I’m rather disappointed at this.

Another thing, was 4)a) on Kohlberg.
The examiners report says “some answers just produced a general description of Kohlbergs framework, which was not required”
But, to me, all the model answer does is give a general description of the Kohlberg framework!?

There are a few other debatable areas too, where it turns out that I may not have approached the answer in the way the examiner wanted.
Admittedly, with hindsight, I can see where I went wrong.
Some other areas, on the other hand, I can’t really work out how I would have lost so many marks…

My method for exams F2-F9 has been to first view the lectures on Open Tuition and then spend lots of time with the revision kits and doing at least 95% of all questions. Sometimes I do questions 2-3 times to make sure I understand it and can formulate a good answer well within the designated time. I think it’s important to answer the questions as you would in the exam and not just scribble down some bullet point.

This has worked relatively well for me so far: 3 exams 90+, 4 exams 80+, 1 exam 78. I’m also usually done 10 minutes before the time limit (except the CBEs which took max 1 hour per exam)

    punkindrublic86,
I have the same problem – got only 38 whilst spent all 4 months at least 20 hours a week breaking my neck studying both for P1 and P2 for June session. What is worse is I do not know what the problem is. I planned all the answers as well, wrote a lot as an answers and left exam hall with a pleasant feeling that everything was OK. But unfortunately it wasnt…

I requested an admin review. But it was only waste of money – they confirmed that my results are fair. May be its just a style of an answers marker does not like or my bad handwriting – I have absolutely NO IDEA…
I guess I will retake P1 along with P3 in December session.

I have a question to you (and probably to others) – you said you planned your answers. How did you handle that in your answer booklet? I devoted to plan a separate sheet (first one) and made a plan on it for all the questions (in the style of one-word bullet points).
Looking at the results my first thought was that the examiner looked only on that one sheet and did not go any further…

I had request for review as I had read suggested answer and confirm that I can pass. But the review result still saying my mark did not change. I definitely not believe it.
What my feeling now is they get your money and did not review your mark.

They just tell you that your mark did not change, I strongly believe that my mark will change.

My conclusion is they really cheat people money.

I’ve failed twice. Exam technique is likely to be both our problem.

    danieljamesglover,

Any idea what was wrong with exam techinique?

In my case I tried to follow the principles of planning, time management. During the preparation stage I practiced a lot of past exam questions and attempted 2 mocks from BPP practice book.
I guess that despite all of that my answers were not considered right and relevant. However the official answers were not too far away from mine. I have no idea what should I concentrate on to pass P1 in December session..
