hello im an Alevel student in . I really need help regarding my uni decision. im passionate about the field of accounting and i wanna do bsc in accounting and finance.im not really sure what to do. i dont know if i should do ACCA or the university of london external program in accounting and finance. help would be really appreciated and its preferable that i do a degree because if heard that doing ACCA is like climbing from the 10th floor of a building, not because its hard but because it has no value but im still not sure. please help me whether i should do the university of london external program or ACCA. and also the exemptions after the external program in bsc accounting and finance is 8 papers from ACCA and 6 from ICAEW.

1. ACCA has quite a lot of value. Why else would over 144,000 people hold the qualificaiton. It is recognised around the world and within the UK
2. Whether you do the BSc or pursue the ACCA, it is still the same level of commitment you must have to studying. The difference is that after the BSc, you will still have to do either the ACCA, ICAEW or other suitable exam to become chartered (hence you would ahve spent all that money getting a BSC that will ultimately have little value.)You have to decide which option you will take, but do not listen tot he pundits who try to tell you that ACCA has no value. Just do a search of some of the top people in industry and you will realise that quite a lot of them have the letters ACCA or FCCA after their name.
May 10, 2011 at 8:29 am #81292hey. u know ACCA has a really low value in Pakistan. it has a lot of members, but here there is an extreme supply of ACCA. people who fail from science subjects start to ACCA because its ‘easy’. every other person is doing acca here in pakistan thats why i wanna do something different. why i wanna do Bsc, is that because firstly a degree’s value will never fall. i can tell my grand children that i did a degree and ACCA wont probaably even exist then so they wont know about it. thats why i wanna do a DEGREE. i wanna graduate like a normal student. i wanna be proud and make my parents feel proud that i got a degree by the university of london!
May 25, 2011 at 1:33 pm #81293O.K. then go get a degree. I can promise you though that ACCA will be around. I got a degree in the sciences (didn’t fail, I was quite successful) and now my degree is almost absolutely worthless to me, since I got my ACCA qualifications.
The difference between a degree and a professional qualification can be immense, and if you think there are a lot of ACCAs around, just look at the number of people with a degree. There are 405,000 students and just under 200,000 ACCA members worldwide. I am sure there are more than that number of Bachelors degrees in pakistan alone.

December 3, 2014 at 6:25 pm #217031Hello friend,I have the same question whichyo asked 3 years ago.. so now you tell me what are you doing? Bsc accounting and Finance or doing ACCA? which thing is better?
December 4, 2015 at 4:28 pm #287591Qualifications in accounting, be it bsc or masters and you don’t have professional qualifiaction, no recognition would be given to you as an accountant. ACCA is a professional accounting body just like other professional accounting bodies in the world. If you are not thinking of going into the academic line, it’s advisable to go for any professional qualification that is valuable in your region if you are thinking of practising as an accountant, because employers still recognise it worldwide, and it also add value to you as an accountant. don’t let those that fell by the way side discourage you. anyways do whatever pleases you.
