Hi everybody,
I was wondering if any of you could help me with my question. My husband is most likely getting a job in Switzerland soon. I would need about another 12 – 18 months to finish my ACCA. Of course we would rather both move together and not be apart for the duration of my ACCA qualification but there doesn’t seem to be any class room tuition available in Switzerland.
Does anybody have experiences with studying the ACCA in Switzerland? Is the ACCA “worth” anything there or not? Will it be recognised / appreiated?
I am left with P1 – P3 and then planning to do P4 and P5. Does anybody have experiences with home study / long distance tuition (BPP) for those modules? I am not so sure if I can do long distance studies with modules that do involve a lot of calculations. I am more the type of person that needs somebody to point out my calculation mistake on my own piece of paper, if you know what I mean.
For any ideas, hints, tipps and experiences shared………thanks a million in advance.
Tinker

Hi,
I am not aware of ACCA in Switzerland but I took BPP home study course for P5 for June 2010 exam. This involves some calculations and study book explaines these quite in details. However, in the exam there were not many calculations, thus if you feel comfortable with studying theoretical material on your own, you can take it)
August 16, 2010 at 3:10 pm #65489Hi,
I don’t have any experiences studying in Switzerland, but I have recently moved to France (I got married so am out here with my husband) and the ACCA is not taught over here as the French have their own accountancy qualifications.
I ended up having to study via home study. I have to be honest, it’s not easy. When I was in the UK I used to attend the BPP/Kaplan taught courses where a lot of the study tips and tutor support was available. Home study is difficult, but you can still pass the exams if you focus on it.
My problem was not knowing where to start. I had the BPP/Kaplan books but felt that just by reading them I had information overload. I ended up looking through the OT notes which summarized each topic into smaller segments. I’d then refer back to the study texts in order to get a detailed explanation and then practice the questions (past papers and revision texts).
I’ve so far managed to pass both F6 & F9 as home study and am now awaiting results for F8 & P1 (fingers crossed). I know the P papers are more difficult, but am hoping that I can manage them as home study.
Quite a few places in the UK now have online study options where you can watch lectures online and even have tutor support (check BPP website).
As for the ACCA being worth anything, here in France to be honest I don’t think the French really recognize/appreciate it as they have their own qualifications, but I’m still continuing with it as the ACCA is well known around the world and especially the UK. Also i’m beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel so it’d be a shame to give it up now.
Hope this helps.

You could try online tuition, I found Kaplan very good, like being in the classroom.
Good luck!
