I have got difficulty to tackle Q.32.
September 8, 2016 at 8:27 am #338947Paper was OK compared to June which was tooo hard,
New style for Sec. B (30 marks) has some + and –
Before it was 10 marks each 2 question, so if we do some calculation then will get some marks even if the final answer is not correct, however, Sep-16 we do all calculation but if answer is not correct you lost full marks.
Mcq’s were 60-40 ok-tricky, i did 60% and 40% were guess.
Long questions were also OK.
September 8, 2016 at 9:05 am #338960I sat the June one too nelvin,
awful!September 8, 2016 at 10:04 am #338973Oh really? The normal optimum production plan would be with cookies first. I didn’t realise with limiting factor that contracts takes priority?
I also got the same answers for the Maximin and Minimax. I guessed for the value of perfect information was C because I forgot how to work it out haha.
I also got optimal solution as B because the ISO contribution line if you imagine it pushing forward on the graph will not touch the other points. The object was to Maximise it.
Sarah, looks like you and I put similar answers. I also did the exact same for question 31 so I’m so relieved! I did the gross profit and net profit margins, explained why they probably increased or decreased and by how much. Then I talked about how revenue/sales increased for the electronic goods because of the increased market demand. Then just went on about how complaints also increased and by how much, and also delivery times fell. I balanced it out with a notable increase in customers though and just suggested they should be more efficient with their processes so as to retain the increase in market share (customers) they already have. The increase in customers meant their strategy was working so just they need to work at being efficient.
Hope that gets me at least half the marks! lol.
September 8, 2016 at 10:06 am #338974Section B. Anyone remeber what was the 3rd part
1) Risk Uncertainty – minimax/reget
2) Flexible Budgeting
3) ????How was your paper Sarah ?
September 8, 2016 at 10:38 am #338978The 3 part was composed by a problem with maximin, a problem with linear programming and limiting factors (ISO contribution line, contract with Encompass for shakes) an a problem with flexible budget. This is what I remember.
September 8, 2016 at 10:38 am #338980Hey chi fingers crossed we’ve done enough on 31 for almost full marks! I also mentioned that they were performing well with revenues increasing but in order for it to continue they must work on lowering customer complaints most likely about slow deliveries and that changing from the international Courier to their own was a bad move. Just a lot of waffling really these performance measure ones aren’t they! They’re Easy marks I think so was quite happy to see that question poo up! 🙂
Nelvin I thought the paper was okay too much better feeling than June paper. First half of 32 with limiting factor think I messed but but found second part with optimum solution and iso lines, and slack, easy.
Mcqs probably definitely knew about 12. Ten probably half knew/half guessed. 8 really unsure and time pressured so guesses!
Never have time to check through my answers in an f5 paper!

I found my optimum to be B tell me yours
September 8, 2016 at 11:08 am #339002If you perform calculation, the optimal point should be C as at C the objective function is maximised.

September 8, 2016 at 12:49 pm #339026Guys, what paper to go for after F5 ?
Any suggetions ?

I did the session CBE version.ACCA needs to get a grip when they roll out this exam version. First, I could only start my exam with 35min delay because of technical problems of various kinds. Then, during the exam I got interrupted twice by staff. Then they wanted to add time to my exam (3. interruption), fair game, but did not manage. So they stopped my exam to call tech service etc. This happened roughly 8min before exam should have ended for me.
I will file a complaint, hence I was interrupted so many times and lost my train of thoughts and unequal exam environment.
Very poorly done on ACCA side!
With the CBE examination, do you have instant result?
September 8, 2016 at 5:05 pm #339108Hello,
Unfortunately the results are not instant. We get them at the same time as the paper ones as section C is hand marked.
September 8, 2016 at 9:05 pm #339198I ranked Shakes last, too. This product had the least contribution regarding the limiting factor.
Answering the follow-up question was funny, hence only 4400 of the 5000 could be delivered, failing the contract already 🙂Another comment of mine was that one needs to look into the penalty for failing the contract and perhaps reevaluation the profit/contribution considering this circumstance.
Sadly, time was short on the entire question
September 8, 2016 at 9:08 pm #339199One does not get an instant result as one has also open questions that require human marking (Section B/C questions).
Advantage is that I am faster with the keyboard than with pen &paper. The examiner will have easier time to read/mark my answers too.
September 9, 2016 at 12:26 pm #339351Exactly! It was nothing to do with throughput accounting I think …
September 9, 2016 at 12:38 pm #339355Did we have to show calculations in the answer booklet? I was calculating on the question booklet and then just draw dots…:((( I know it is weird.
No, you didn’t have to. You could write your calculation strait on the question paper to make it easier for you. I did ask that question!

Did you add 5000 to the expected demand of Shakes for next month? ‘Cause the extra 5000 were being sold at a discounted price. So i calculated the contribution for the 5000 shakes and the expected demand separately to show the difference and that they couldnt produce enough for the agreement.
In the next one i said if the agreement is breached, the remaining grams of Betta could be used to produce any of the three products if theres a sudden increase in the demand
September 9, 2016 at 2:52 pm #339371I loved Q31, much better than F7s ratios -_-
September 9, 2016 at 8:33 pm #339568What was the optimal plan q32 Part c
September 10, 2016 at 9:36 am #339642does anyone knew about the ans for question 26/30???

Yup, time was short but I hope we’ve done enough. I didn’t focus on the contract in part (a) because they couldn’t even make enough shakes to meet the current Market demand in the first place. If they had done that, then yes they could talk about how to fulfil the contract. I got a shortfall of 2060 shakes because the market demand was 2500 from what I remember. So, they could only make 440 shakes from Betta.
In part (b) Was asking whether they should breach their agreement. I said they should breach their agreement because as long as Betta is limited to 12000 grams, they would not be able to make any more shakes regardless of the demand and regardless of the contract. The contract also demanded they make vast amounts of shakes which again I said would not be possible because of Betta.
My Optimal plan was to make all Cookies and Cakes. 440 units of Shakes could only be made based on the limiting factor.
September 10, 2016 at 1:01 pm #339661I believe part a asked ‘if they honour the contract for 5000 shakes with the limiting factor, what would the optimum production be and also the profit for that month’.
I have calculated 5000 shakes first, then all cookies (based on cont per gramms of betta), then some of the cakes and none of the other shakes.
And part b asked ‘whether they should breach the contract or not’. By now I have ran out of time but I would have calculated the production based on contribution (cookies, cakes and shakes – without contract), and compare this profit with answer a and decide yes or no to the breach.September 10, 2016 at 1:05 pm #339662For Q31 I thought it was a balanced score card question and I have written a lot, not keeping an eye on the time 🙁
Anyone else had mention it too?September 10, 2016 at 1:48 pm #339672@horvathk86 said:
