Hi everyone,
Sorry if this has been asked before, I’m panicking a bit because my CBE exam is tomorrow and i’ve just seen the ACCA F1 FAB syllabus 8-|
The Opentuition (OT) course notes (which are amazing by the way) appear to have skipped many of the topics listed on the syllabus and i’m concerned/surprised about this. Do the OT course notes focus on the major topics only? The topics which gets asked all the time?
For example, there is no mention in the course notes of demand elasticity, international payments disequilibrium, social and demographic factors, environmental factors, a business’s SWOT and on and on…. Yes it’s true some of the topics have elements of common sense and general knowledge, but there are many which are quite technical and require studying.
I’ve done all the practice exams on ACCA’s website, and that on OT, and i feel confident enough to do the real exam, but i also think that they’re not comprehensive. And yes some of the missing topics came in the practice exams.
Can someone explain why many of the topics have been skipped in the course notes??? Should i be worried about this?
Many many thanks!
December 17, 2013 at 5:47 pm #153110The notes are ‘notes’ not a study text. They are based on what is typically covered in lectures and these rarely cover everything in any syllabus. The approach in all OT notes is to focus on major topics.
By the way, I suggest you look at Chapter 3 for environmental influences.
December 17, 2013 at 5:52 pm #153113Thank you for your reply. For future reference , would you recommend *not* relying solely on OT material for studying? I know that OT is about free and open knowledge so this would go against the idea of having to buy extra material…
And yes i have gone through that chapter, i accidentally typed that one in…
December 18, 2013 at 10:12 am #153150A great many people pass using just OT material.
You have a choice, and have to ‘know yourself’. For example, you could buy a BPP text. This is very comprehensive. You could read it all and learn it all, but would you? How much more would you actually know than just relying on OT? Many students buy texts and rarely open them.
If you know what’s in the OT material, you have an excellent chance of passing. However, we don’t set ourselves up to provide comprehensive sets of questions. There are some on the site, but investing in a question bank to provide additional practice would do no harm.
