good day! im a Trinidadian and to do ACCA we do not need a degree. I am now a member and tried to do the MRA pathway to get CPA designation but a requirement is to have a degree first. So if you all are planning on doing the MRA pathway, ensure you have a degree and dont do like me and pay $500CAN to do the Canadian Law and Tax exam just to be told i wont get through πŸ™

CPA is very confusing place. Since last year i have been trying to find a route on how to convert my ACCA. I finally found CPA Caribbean online and i have directed my transcripts to an address they gave me to see if i will get exemptions.

I am sure there are others out there who have converted ACCA to CPa this way but yet everytime i email CPA Ontario they act like its the first time someone has asked this question and just send me use less links that makes no sense to me.

Hi Aarti, try CPA Ireland, they do offer generous exemptions to ACCA students and members. They have MRA with CPA Canada and Australia. Let us know how you get on.

    Hi Aarti123,

Did you get exemptions from ACCA? If not did you complete the research assignment to get the Oxford Brooks degree?

I am little confused, I must admit as i am applying for MPNP (Monitoba PNP) immigration purpose

Hey! there are 2 ways (that I am aware of) to get from ACCA to CPA
    1. The first one is from the mutual recognition agreement ACCA has with CPA, CGA. If you take this pathway it is the quickest and the best since you only need to pass the Canadian tax exam but its requirement is to have a Degree.

    2. The second one is the regular process which can be done through CPA prep courses or practical experience this can take up to 2 years. ( I am guessing you have to go through this procedure since you don’t have a degree, but try asking ACCA if you can enroll for the Oxford Brookes University degree it would probably be quicker)

Yes, each province has its own CPA regulatory body, I would suggest emailing them instead of calling them since they aren’t the best at giving advice on calls!

    Hope this helps!

    Hi Alkemist

i am an ACCA member and recently submitted all my documents including the certificate of passing the law and tax and application. however its already been more than a week i havent heard anything from CPA-Canada. could you please tell me usually how long it took for them to respond you while applying and then for issuing you the membership certificate.

your response will be highly appreciated.

    BR

@1473357 I cannot recall how long it took for them to respond. What I can tell you though is that to date they have not sent my certificate. Now that you mention it, I need to contact them because it has been well over a year on that one.

the CPA MRA is with CPA British Columbia only. They are the only province to offer it as far as I am aware.

    I am an ACCA member and I had 4 papers exempt in ACCA i-e F1, F2, F6 and F8

I have cleared all other papers including P6 and P7 as optional papers

Do these exemptions will affect, if I opt for CGA exemption on the basis of ACCA membership.

    Hi all,

I am a Student member (ACCA), with 2 more P-papers to complete, and now in Canada. I recently received a job offer of accounting assistant here in Canada, through Robert-Half (Accountemps). Specifically, I am contracted by Robert-Half (thus I am their employee) to a company, where I am working as an accounting assistant. At Robert half my supervisor is a recruiting manager who help me to assign my job. But the company where I worked, I have a supervisor, who actually is a CPA (Canada) and supervise, help and guide me on my day-to-day roles.

I would like register this job a part of my PER in myACCA Experience. Can someone help me to do so, based on their similar experience or opinion. I am particularity confused on (i) whom should I put as my employer, Robert-Half who pays me or The company where I actually work; (ii) who is my supervisor and son.

    Please help

    Hello,

I’ve just become an ACCA member recently (April 2018) and applying to convert my ACCA to CPA with CPA Alberta. I have been In Canada for 3 years. Although I started my ACCA in my home country, I didn’t resume until I lived in Canada and took all my exams in Canada. Now that I’m converting, I’m shocked to know that I may not be able to do so because I didn’t work in the accounting profession in my home country for 2 year immediately preceding to my receipt of the ACCA.

I know that there are quite a lot of people are still doing their ACCA in Canada. Has anyone encounter the same problem and is there a way to get around it?

    Kind regards,

    @alkemist

I think I read somewhere at if one has availed exemptions for any of the 14 acca papers, they cannot apply for Canada CPA, but I’m not able to find much info on it now.

Can you shed some light on this?

I have transferred myself from Diploma in Accounting and Business to ACCA qualifications so I was given exemptions for papers F1-f3 by default. Will this affect my application for Canada CPA?

I’ve got only 3 P level papers left now.

Not sure where you read this, but there are many persons who have received exemptions under ACCA who have become CPA Canada members.

If your question is not answered by the information here https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/member/membership/mutual-memberships.html (select the CPA Canada option) or in any of the related links or downloads at the bottom of that page you should contact:

Hi @obu2018 , if you do not know any Canadian CPAs, you can use 2 references who are members of ACCA and have known you for at least 1 year.

Has anyone tried to convert to CPA (Ontario) who doesn’t have a bachelors degree before acquiring ACCA qualification and have more information on the PEP route?

I have over 10 years of practical experience, been qualified ACCA for over 4 years but do not have a university degree, which is stopping me going down the MRA route.

Do you get any exemptions from the PEP route? It seems insane that just because I didn’t go to university before studying ACCA that it would mean I had to study for an additional 2 years!

And my biggest concern is that after registering for cpa. When do I need to give the exam, overview of Canadian law and taxation ? Is that an online exam or I need to go to Canada to give that.
