“The good news email” was an error in September. It’s not usually they sent to the finalists in any attempt so don’t just wait for that error again. I am waiting for my final result too and I don’t think they will do the same mistake again in this attempt
January 7, 2021 at 6:54 pm #601839@nishreen The “good news” e-mail was a systems error – ACCA apologised – you will see from our poll on the subject that not getting the e-mail did NOT mean fail. Additional measures have been put in place – it will not happen again. Please do NOT create uncalled for anxiety for your fellow students.
January 7, 2021 at 7:41 pm #601840I wait for SBL. Was 2 attempt. So fed up with. I do not trust their markers at all. How I know that my work was marked correctly. SBL is very speculative exam. Marker may say no for the answer if this is not in their answers scrip, even thought the offered answer would be a way better than script answers – if it is not their – computer says no. ?
January 8, 2021 at 7:44 am #601853@avbosip You should not be so concerned. I was an ACCA examiner for 7 years – AAA – and you don’t get more subjective an exam than that. Markers are not rogue individuals – they are professionals with standards of competence and integrity – as you should expect from any professional. Marking schemes for markers are more detailed than those that are published so have more guidance than you will see. Marking is a rigorous process that involves sample scripts and “seeded” scripts that all markers mark to ensure consistency of marking. All marginal fail scripts will be second marked.
Consider – no one, least of all ACCA, wants students to fail. Like any accountancy body, ACCA needs members who will pay annual membership subscriptions until they retire!

Thank you for your reply and I appreciate it. I suppose you would reply.
However, my personal experience says a bit different. Also I have discussed it with my colleagues and everyone “kind of” agree, that there is a scale for failing because they need to keep the standards to say how hard it is before becoming a “member of their club”. Plus time presure to finilise the results is not helping markers to go through very detailed…We all should expect there are professionals, but they do not even release any information about the results, which I consider should be shown to the person. It means there is definitely something to hide, and in this case what kind of integrity we can speak, if they hide the results…
This is my subjective opinion.January 8, 2021 at 2:41 pm #605280@avbosip You are mistaken – unlike some qualifications that I have come across (not the “UK” qualifications – ACCA, ICAEW, ICAS, CIMA, etc) there is no quota system – if you achieve 50% – you pass. Markers are experts in their field – yes there is time pressure – and yes they are paid per script BUT – there is a limit to the number of scripts that they can mark and scripts are assigned to markers (randomly) only a few at a time. Marking is moderated throughout the process – not just at the end – so if a “speed marker” did not mark to the required standard, their marking would be suspended and they would not be invited to mark at the next session.
If by not releasing any information you mean that you don’t get to see your marked script this is no different to any professional qualification or even GCSEs or A level results. You do get to see answers, marking schemes and examiner’s reports – not all professional bodies make these available to help candidates prepare for exams – you might feel better if you looked to the positives of becoming a member of ACCA.
January 8, 2021 at 10:49 pm #605304Thank you so much Claudia. I honestly always do well when I read your approach.. Am sure you did really well as usual.. Best wishes!
January 10, 2021 at 5:24 pm #605427Hi Kim, i had this query in my mind. for example an exam has two sections A & B. is it necessary for a student to pass both the sections individually as well to achieve the pass in the that subject ? i have heard a few tuition providers talk about this, but theory sounds dodgy to me.
January 11, 2021 at 8:16 am #605466@sahil4999 absolutely NOT – that is a myth. What I think is more important for students to appreciate is that they should allocate their time to attempt all parts of all questions. Suppose there are two scripts and on first marking both have 49% – but one has made some attempt at all parts – the other has 45% on section A and only 4% on section B because they have attempted only one part of one question. It is far more likely that a second marker can find an additional mark in the first script – it’s not possible to find additional marks when there is no answer (!)
January 11, 2021 at 9:09 am #605471@Kim Smith
1. If you could tell us, what mark will be eligible for a second marker? 40-49?
However, if it’s CBE exam with multiple choice, the marker didn’t mark the multiple choice, how do they suppose to know if we are on the marginal fail?2. If we submit a cbe centre complaint, how do we know whether it is consider successful? The computer crashed during my CBE attempt, but the invigilators leaving me to the last to resolve. Since I was the last candidate attempting the exam, candidates started leaving room in noise and one of the invigilator spoke over the phone in front of me. It was totally distracting and miserable! Do you know how likely this situation will be considered?
3. Usually, for a centre complaint or mitigating circumstances, how many mark will be granted, if successful? If ACCA decided not to consider the centre complaint, will we be notified?
Thanks.
January 11, 2021 at 10:04 am #605473Hi, I have received email from ACCA about SBL exam preparation for March 2021. Does it mean I have failed my DEC20 attempt?.
January 11, 2021 at 10:47 am #605479@23.56
1 – it will depend on various factors including the degree of subjectivity in awarding marks (e.g. narrative vs computation), spread of marks, etc. It is the system that identifies the scripts to be second marked – not the marker – so this will take account of marks for sections A and B.
2 – all reported complaints/mitigating circumstances will be considered both individually and collectively to ensure fairness.
3 – you won’t be notified (because all complaints etc will be considered). You shouldn’t expect handfuls of marks to be added. A script would have to be sufficiently good at least in part to demonstrate that a candidate had the ability to pass – if every page of a script “speaks” that a candidate is poorly prepared then no amount of mitigating circumstance is going to compensate for that.
January 11, 2021 at 11:27 am #605480When did you receive it ?
January 11, 2021 at 12:00 pm #605494I can remember I received something similar while waiting for my SBR result and I did pass. Many received this previously but it’s just random email. BTW, is this from ACCA or learn signal. I can see they have uploaded our result it’s showing number 1 in my qualification
January 11, 2021 at 12:18 pm #605497Learn signal is just tuition provider so every time they randomly send email. But it’s true after result published they know our information as every time I passed they sent me congratulations email (learn singel) that’s mean after result publication ACCA shares our information but before result I don’t know. BTW guys did u find 1 number in your ACCA qualification yet?
January 11, 2021 at 1:04 pm #605502Let the speculation game begin…
I just tried to log onto myAcca to see if there is that notification… I can’t get in! I typed in my details, page started loading but then it took me back to the log in page. Tried to log in three times. Weird.
January 11, 2021 at 1:06 pm #605503@Sayhossz
Thanks for your reply
Yes in my profile there is 1 notification in red circle under my qualificationI wrote AAA and SBR LAST DECEMBER
January 11, 2021 at 1:10 pm #605504Did u receive such book exam email from ACCA or learn signal? I am waiting for AFM last exam of mine
January 11, 2021 at 1:44 pm #605507Yes, every session has been the same recently – a notification appears circa a week before. Just a couple more days and we’ll find out the results. Fingers crossed
January 11, 2021 at 2:55 pm #605530I beleive ACCA should not sedn out any email before the release at all (such as update or email about next session…)… not to stress people more…
January 11, 2021 at 3:12 pm #605533Finally managed to log in.
Yes, just like last time, there is a notification on myAcca.
I cannot understand why ACCA/learning partners are sending these emails and show exam results notification on myAcca prior to officially releasing results? Clearly marking is done and results are uploaded, so why can’t they release it? Alternatively, just don’t email people/show notifications prematurely. Mind-blowing.January 11, 2021 at 3:49 pm #605534Guys do the notification indicate anything..
January 11, 2021 at 4:49 pm #605541Yeah, it indicates that your results are uploaded onto the system, but you still can’t see them until the 18th.
January 11, 2021 at 4:59 pm #605542Notifications mean nothing. ALPs should not be sending out e-mails at this time and I have not seen/heard that any of them have in the last week. If you have received such an e-mail it would be helpful if you could post it in entirety with date/time stamp to this forum for follow-up.
It used to be the case that ACCA did not send e-mails for 2 weeks before results but the problem now is that with 4 exam sessions a year that would be 2 months of the year when ACCA could not send out communications to students – especially when with new CBE, remote exams and implications of covid there is a lot to keep students informed about. ACCA recommends that students bookmark and visit regularly the “covid hub” for updates – https://www.accaglobal.com/uk/en/cam/coronavirus.html
If you were to do that I think you would find that communications only reinforce other messaging and is in no way related to students’ results.January 11, 2021 at 5:29 pm #605545I sat the SBR exam in the Dec 2020 session and it was…I don’t know, I guess it was hard for me and it was nothing like any of the past papers, for example, only 5 marks related to group accounting, no accounting standards involved in the Q2 ethics question, etc.
When I saw Q1 I thought I might pass the exam with no problem, coz I was familiar with all 4 questions in Q1: defined benefit plan, goodwill calculation/explanation, classification between asset and business, derecognition criteria of financial assets. I ended up spending 1h15mins on Q1, but although I’m familiar with the examined topics I’m not sure how good I responded; I have a weird feeling that my answer format was not clear enough and that I haven’t 100% apply my knowledge to the case; that being said, Q1, in my view, is the best answered question of all 4 questions in the SBR paper.
But things got bad in Q2. It was the first time I see an ethics question without concerning the IFRS or IAS; after I finish the first question I didn’t really have time for question 2 and 3, although I have no idea what I should write about even if I have time, coz I don’t know how to discuss the expected life of credit cards T_T. So I simply skipped question 2 and 3 which worth a total of 8 marks in Q2. But I felt like I did some solid discussion in question 1, the ethics question.
I attempted every question in Q3, but I don’t know how well I have attempted them. Again there is that weird feeling that I didn’t fully apply my knowledge to the case, and didn’t structure my answer plan properly like it should be.
Q4 was the toughest one for me, and also the reason for my anxiety. I haven’t prepared anything related to sustainability reporting…<sigh>…so for the first question I only wrote the purposes of integrated reporting and provided some gibberish related to sustainability reporting based on my instinct and common sense…for question 2 which was entirely related to sustainability reporting, I skipped thoroughly <sigh>. For question 3 and 4 which worth a respective 6 and 7 marks in Q4, I guess I attempted them badly, partly because I didn’t have enough time – my handwriting has always been much slower than typing. Provided some brief discussion and some accounting entries – no sure if they are correct – and that’s the end.
I’ve become quite anxious and nervous about the exam result release. I haven’t passed any ACCA paper ever since I failed AAA in the Dec 2019 session. Should I be lucky enough to pass SBR, I will be sitting AAA and SBL in the March session when CBE will be launched in China. But should I fail, I will have to spend another 3-months effort in retaking it. I’ll become a full-time auditor in October this year and I just hope I can pass the exam before that time to be eligible for qualification pay.
