Hi,
I live in India and I just completed my undergraduate in Bachelor of Commerce with ACCA exemptions from F1 – F6.
Today while checking out the MRA(member recognition agreement) of ACCA, I came across the MRA between CAANZ and ACCA. While checking the eligibility requirements for becoming a CAANZ, there was one in particular which I couldn’t understand,
“ACCA members must have gained their membership through the standard examination pathway (not through a third-party arrangement)”
What does this mean? Am I not eligible for the exemptions in CAANZ? Does this mean that only students who complete ACCA without exemptions are qualified for obtaining CAANZ through MRA?
Please clarify this as soon as possible. Thanks
July 17, 2022 at 8:22 am #660701This is about “mutual recognition” – i.e. a MEMBER of ACCA with 5 year’s post-membership experience can apply to be members of CA ANZ if they reside in Australia or New Zealand … and CA ANZ members can, similarly, apply for ACCA membership.
Students who accept exam exemptions available to them still obtain membership through the “standard examination pathway” by sitting and the passing the remaining exams of the qualification (which, as a minimum, always included all the strategic professional exams).
A third-party arrangement means where someone obtains ACCA membership through another professional body. For example – members of ACCA and ICAEW can each apply for direct membership of the other professional body, without sitting any exams. Someone who passes ICAEW exam, becomes a member of ICAEW, and then applies for and obtains ACCA membership, would NOT be eligible for CA ANZ membership.
So if you pass the remaining exams in the ACCA scheme (3 applied skills + strategic professional) and complete the EPSM and 3 years’ PER to become a member – after 5 years of membership – if you are in ANZ, you will be able to apply for CA ANZ membership (assuming that the alliance is still in force in however long that will be – 8 years if you haven’t any practical experience yet).
