Still can’t believe i passed this on first attempt!
I completely left out Question 2 and still managed to obtain a pass. This shows that the examiner is quite considerate as long as you try and demonstrate that you know what you are doing and want to achieve in your answer. To be honest, AFM was the worst ACCA exam condition i ever put myself in. So glad its over.
For those who didn’t make it, do not lose hope. Put in the extra work and i am sure you will see a good result.
January 18, 2021 at 4:35 am #606556Passed wit 57%
Trust me guys past papers practice is key to pass.
At least practice last 6 papers only and believe me you will nail this paper if you are conceptually correct.January 18, 2021 at 4:40 am #606558Got 44 in AFM and 37 in AAA. i thought will get thru but was not the case.
January 18, 2021 at 5:12 am #606565Hello to everyone! Alhamdulillah I have passed exam with 63%. I really did not expect such result. Thank you a lot tutor. I really appreaciate you. Your lectures were very simple to understand. May Allah save you and encourage to do more such good things in the future.
January 18, 2021 at 5:48 am #606573Passed with 53% and now an affliate. Was expecting a borderline fail or so and was looking forward to writing the exam in March- Question 2 was disastrous wasn’t sure but I kept on writing something.
I observed the poll for a while before checking my results and noted a significant margin between pass and fail (more passes). It appears the global pass rate could exceed 40%.
Advice: Try to study risk management thoroughly do not ignore swaps, collars and the theoretical aspects of risk management. This aspect of the syllabus is quite straightforward and with constant practice you would understand the methodology is the same. This gives you at least 20 marks head start. Please watch John’s lecture videos on Risk management as many times as possible till it sinks!
Also ATTEMPT ALL questions just put something down if you do not know it.! Good thing the exam is 60% discursive these days common sense would come in handy.
January 18, 2021 at 8:14 am #606633This is my last paper, and it was a retake at that and I got… 49%. Previously had 46%. You can imagine how gutted I am. But I’m not giving up yet!
January 18, 2021 at 8:53 am #606651Failed with 44%, really surprised as I answered everything and thought I got a decent mark. Will take a day to absorb this before formulating a new plan.
January 18, 2021 at 8:59 am #606653I passed with 71 marks. Very happy to say that I am now an affiliate.
I am very grateful for Open Tuition as I did self study and this platform was very helpful. The work you guys do is invaluable and I hope to support Open Tuition financially in the future. I would like to specially thank Mr. John Moffat for his amazing work. Open Tuition is such a valuable platform specially for self studying students and I hope this amazing work continues on. My heartfelt gratitude to the Open Tuition team and best of luck for the future.
For anyone who plans to sit for AFM in the future, the best advice I can give is practice as many questions as you can. Question practice is key in this exam. Even if you know the theory very well, it will be very difficult to pass without practicing questions. Allocate as much time as you can for question practice.
January 18, 2021 at 9:22 am #606670Passed 55%! So happy I did as I didn’t answer one of the questions so for sure thought it was a fail.
January 18, 2021 at 9:29 am #606675Passed AFM first attempt 68%, thank you so much open tuition!!
January 18, 2021 at 9:39 am #606678Passed!!! This was my last exam, ACCA journey has finished 🙂 thanks to Opentuition – it was a really long and challenging journey for me.
Does anyone know if ACCA should email finalists regarding the application of membership?January 18, 2021 at 9:42 am #606679Passed at the 2nd attempt. First took in September and did awful so was pleasantly surprised! I definitely agree with making sure you know risk management really well. That definitely was a change for me from 1st to 2nd attempt snd I think that’s the reason I managed to pass. I have 1 exam left now which I will be taking in March.
January 18, 2021 at 10:46 am #606725Congratulations, i didn’t have the heart to continue AFM so I switched to APM the exam didn’t like me as well
January 18, 2021 at 11:20 am #606772Two words of advice I will give anyone planning to take the exam are:
1. Get the knowledge
2. Practice1. Get the knowledge:
This involves making sure you are using the most effective method of studying, e.g. self-study or getting a good tuition provider. The lectures on OpenTuition is very good. I will highly recommend getting a study text and a revision kit from an ACCA approved content provider e.g. Kaplan or BPP.
Also, think about how many papers you are sitting in an exam. Depending on other current commitments, would it be good to do maybe just one paper at a time rather than two? I find it better to focus on one paper and pass than do multiple papers and fail them. By passing the papers one at a time, it helps keep the momentum.
I heard a quote in a movie that says:“The steps you take don’t need to be big. They just need to take you in the right direction.”
2. Practice:
When you study, make sure you have got the knowledge and understand what you have studied. One way to ensure this is to practice exam standard questions.
Practice is very important for many reasons: you intensify your understanding, detect any weaknesses, and enhance exam technique. All of these are very important not just to your exam success, but also to your whole studying experience and also at the workplace. One thing I realised from my early papers was that I fail not because I don’t have the knowledge, but because I have not practiced enough.
So I say: Practice, practice, practice!I will say one thing to those who failed their papers:
Failure is not final, failure is a part of our journeys and sometimes a vital part of our successes. Some of us who passed have failed once or several times before.
In all things, it is the courage to continue that counts. So don’t give up, press on, and enjoy the journey. You are already a success when you decided to sit the exam. Keep putting one step in front of the other. You can do this! All the best of luck to everyone!
January 18, 2021 at 11:29 am #606779I would recommend doing every single question from Kaplan revision book especially section A questions, learn all the complications and master how to write reports for section A , you should be able to pass the next time, Finally managed to pass on my 3rd attempt with 60%, very relieved considering the disastrous attempt at the second question.
January 18, 2021 at 11:37 am #606783Please how do I join Mr john Moffat ‘s lecture and ask him my questions?
January 18, 2021 at 11:49 am #606800Passed with 71. The tip is attempt majority paper in the time allocated, practise last 5 years past papers, attempt mock, you should be good in both theory and calculations!
January 18, 2021 at 12:04 pm #606818Go for one paper if you’re working.
January 18, 2021 at 12:23 pm #606829Failed at 48..my first P paper..I am aware I screwed up on Q2…but did not expect to lose so many marks in Q1 and Q3…
How did you all managed to do Q2..such as using PE to find asset beta…any similar question in the past…

Click on ACCA and you can select a subject (e.g. AFM) then click on “watch all AFM lectures”. Be sure to download the notes that accompany it as well, it’s on the same page. Hope this helps.January 18, 2021 at 1:03 pm #606845Congratulations
January 18, 2021 at 1:04 pm #606846You can do this!!

My entire exams can be summed up in one word. Failed.
AFM -34 second attempt.
AFM -20 first attempt (December 2018)January 18, 2021 at 3:26 pm #606919@vw0845528
You only fail when you give up, and you’re not giving up. So those 2 attempts are stepping stones to your next success. Perhaps you could look at what you could have done a bit differently.I would suggest getting a BPP Revision Kit and attempting ALL the questions (there’s about 58 for AFM, do them all multiple times if necessary). Even if you read the question and the answer at the same time, write out the answer in your own words. That way you will get an idea of how questions are asked and how you’re expected to answer it in the exam. It really helps so much. Relying on theory alone is dangerous. You’ve got this!
January 18, 2021 at 4:10 pm #606945Passed with 78%!
I must have scored nearly full marks in the 50 marker and the football question as the currency swap one was a disaster
