A company is changing its costing system from taditional absorption costing based on labour hours to ABC. It has overheads of $156000 which are related to taking deliveries
The delivery information about each product is :-
Total units required Delivery sizeX 1000 200
Y 2000 400
Z 3000 1000Total labour costs are $360000 for 45000 hours. Each unit of each product takes the smae number of direct hours.
Assuming that the company uses the number of deliveries as its cost driver, what is the increase or decrease in unit cost for “Z” arising from the change from absorption costing to ABC?
a) decrease $22 per unit
b) Increase of $22 per unit
c) Decrease of $30 per unit
d) Increase of $30 per unit# I calculated the answer of unit cost by absorption costing and it was correct but as i calculated and checked Unit cost by ABC, my answer was incorrect
according to my calculation Unit cost by ABC would be156000 * 3/13 =36000
36000/3000 = 12 per unitbut in answers, they calculated it as
156000/13= 12000
12000/3000= 4
26-4= 22 decreaseCan you please explain this ?
August 6, 2017 at 5:12 pm #400769Assuming that you have copied the question correctly, then your answer ($12 per unit) is correct, and the printed answer is complete nonsense 🙂
(If it a question from the ACCA website or from the BPP Revision Kit, then tell me which one and then I can check the wording myself.)

MCQ # 8August 6, 2017 at 5:19 pm #400776I am sorry, but I only have the BPP Revision Kit 🙁
Have you checked the errata sheet on the Kaplan website? (Although since you are using an old copy I would guess that they have either corrected or removed the answer by now).
Be careful using an old edition – the format of the exam has now changed completely with three sections and more MTQ’s. Current editions of exam kits have questions all in the new format.
August 6, 2017 at 5:24 pm #400777Thank you for your kind reply sir. I have checked the wordings again and they are correct as in kit.
No problem, i ll check the errata on their website.
Thank you for informing about the new exam format. I am aware of it actually i had this old edition of Kaplan and i want to practice as many questions as i can, thats why i am using it. Apart from this i have done the latest BPP exam kit too.August 7, 2017 at 6:38 am #400828No problem 🙂
