Is anyone here revising for AA in December? I am struggling with the multiple questions – they can be very confusing. As it is only 30% of the paper I am thinking of not spending too much time here. Any suggestions?

Although the OTs in the real exam are OT-case questions there are Qs you can practice here https://opentuition.com/acca/aa/aa-practice-questions/ All Qs have justifications so you can check if you get these items wrong.

Then from here https://www.accaglobal.com/gb/en/student/exam-support-resources/fundamentals-exams-study-resources/f8/cbe-past-exams.html# you will find the CBE Specimen and September 2016 and December 2019 exams which have full Section A – and for your final revision there is a Section A in the March/June 2019 Sample exam.

We also have a Section A Mock Exam here https://opentuition.com/acca/aa/acca-aa-revision-mock-exam/

If you do not properly attempt Section A the pass mark you will need to pass on Section B will be much higher (more than 70% if you did not attempt Section A at all). Most students fail on Section B rather than Section A – which should be a source of easy marks.

If you were to have a marginal fail mark based on a good attempt at Section B but a very poor attempt at Section A the second marker/reviewer would (reasonably) conclude that there are significant gaps in your knowledge (those areas of the syllabus covered in Section A) and that you have spent too long on Section B (so the mark here should indeed be better than average) – so, overall, it is less likely that the marker would be “sympathetic” to awarding an extra mark or two.

I recommend that you use the forum to ask when you are confused rather than give up on this part of the exam.

For revision question practice you should aim to work through as many of the published Section B exam questions (as referenced above) – keeping at least one to sit as a mock (or avail yourself of the free mocks as flagged on ACCA’s www).

Do each question to time – draw a line when time is up – critique your answer against the published answer/marking scheme and read the examiner’s report. Don’t expect to make all the points in the model answer – 60% is a very sound pass. If you make points not in the answer chances are they are not relevant – reflect and consider whether such points are relevant to answering the Q set.

Download the “Read the mind of an AA marker” article flagged in the sticky post “How to score marks in AA – essential guidance” at the top of this forum. Attempt these questions and invest time in the article – understanding what does and what doesn’t earn marks is more than half the battle.

Finally if you have technical questions for me – use the Ask the Tutor forum as that is the forum I check daily.
