    Correct.

There will only be 4 professional papers needed after Sept ’18.

    I have just taken F8/F9.

If I only take exams in December / June, assuming I pass everything first time and take 2 exams per session , am I right in thinking the earliest I could finish would be December 2018 either way? Because I either have to wait for the new exam to be available, in December 18, or I do 5 exams, which would mean 2 in December 17, 2 in June 18 and 1 in December 18?

I am not sure whether to do P1/P3 in December or just do some options/ p2.

Finishing sooner would be my preference but I’m right in thinkig it would make no difference aren’t I?

    @Isabelle

You have to decide if you want to take P1 and P3 or if you want to take the new ‘combined’ paper (strategic business leader).

The new exam is in effect from September 2018.
If you pass P1 and P3 before that, you won’t have to do the new combined exam.

I think you can go for P1 and P3.

    You could possibly do:

    P1 and P2 or P3 : December 2017

    P2 or P3 and 1 optional: June 2018

    one optional: December 2018

So I’m right aren’t I that I could do either:

    Strategy 1:
    P1 & P3 in December 17
P2 and option in June 18
    Option December 18

    Or strategy 2:
    P2 and Option December 17
    Option June 18
    New exam December 18.

I am a bit stuck on which way is best.
Less exams would be nice, but I am a bit nervous at taking a new exam format rather than one that has been around for a while. I’m wondering if it’ll make any difference CV wise? Its a shame really because if I could do the new module in June 18 it would be a no-brainier because I’d love to have them done faster!

I am also a bit stuck on my options, and strategy 2 means I have to make a decision faster!

Yes, you are right. Both your strategies are valid.

Many students are in the same boat as you.

Some want to avoid the new paper, and some want to embrace it.

You will have to do some research regarding the new exam.

ACCA makes changes based on employer needs among other things, so the new exam might look better on a CV, but that is debatable.

If you search on opentuition, using the search bar, you can find a lot of threads about choosing optional papers.

The optional papers are the more challenging papers of the qualification.

    Good luck!

    Thanks Suf.

I am leaning towards strategy 2 as it means 1 less exam.

I wish I could chat to some others in the same position see what they’re doing. *hint if anyone in the same position is reading this!*

I am waiting on the last set of exam results before I book my next courses so I will do some reading and have a think on which options I should take.

I am in a similar boat – before the changes were announced my plan was:

    Sep 17 – F6
Dec 17 – F7 (my last F paper, left til last so I could do P2 straight after)
    Mar 18 – P2
    Jun 18 – P1
    Sep 18 – P3
    Dec 18 – Option 1
    Mar 19 – Option 2

However, clearly this doesn’t work now as I need to rush through and get P1 & P3 both done by June 18 or do an option paper instead and then the case study.

I was thinking of changing to:

    Sep 17 – F6
    Dec 17 – F7
    Mar 18 – P2
    Jun 18 – P1 + P3
    Sep 18 – Option 1
    Dec 18 – Option 2

However this means I have to make sure I pass both P1 and P3 first time as I won’t have any chances to retake. If I fail one of them then the other will be wasted too. Instead my plan is now this:

    Sep 17 – F6
    Dec 17 – F7
    Mar 18 – P1 + P3
    Jun 18 – P2
    Sep 18 – Option 1
    Dec 18 – Option 2

This gives me a chance to retake one of the exams if I fail, but I am no longer taking P2 immediately after F7.

Alternatively, I could have done this:

    Sep 17 – F6
    Dec 17 – F7
    Mar 18 – P2
    Jun 18 – Option 1
    Sep 18 – Case study
    Dec 18 – Option 2

But it seems a risk at the moment as we don’t know whether passing the case study will be more difficult than P1+P3 or not.
