Hi All,
Thought i would add my contribution here as well. I made mind maps of SBL which are linked below 🙂
Good luck to everyone sitting on Tuesday!

July 16, 2024 at 10:39 am #708544I sat my SBL exam in June 24 and failed with 46%. It was my last paper and I am so gutted I missed out by 4 marks.
I did exam practise, went through my notes but i know i did not digest a lot of the information because I left it last minute. I watched Hassan Dossani’s videos and did exam practise.
I remember very clearly a question asked me about the 7P’s and i could not list all of them. Kicking myself now because had I learned them all, i could have gotten the 4 extra marks.
Everyone says SBL is a common sense exam, which I what I went off and didn’t prioritise theory over exam technique. Had I focused more on theory, I would have been able to get those last few marks I believe. I now have the problem that the syllabus has changed since my June sitting but I don’t know how much it will have changed by.
So my question is, how much theory do i do and how much exam practise? How in depth do i go for the theory side as I struggle knowing when to stop. My brain just wants to go through each page of the Kaplan textbook but i know that isn’t the most efficient way. I know OT has condensed notes in comparison to Kaplan but i feel like i need to make my own notes to make sure i have covered everything. How do i compile a list of everything i definitely need to know and concentrate on more.
I study with Kaplan through an apprenticeship so i have booked onto tuition again but honestly speaking, i prefer self study so much more so i often just join the classes but study by myself.Think my brain is just going at 1000x speed right now. Still haven’t even gotten over the fact i’ll have to resit the exam. I was so convinced i would be done.
Any tips and advice would be highly appreciated.July 16, 2024 at 10:16 am #708542Failed 46%. My last ACCA paper and gutted I failed it.
Was convinced I did enough to pass. Not sure where I went wrong! Used Hassan, VHFE but ultimately I think it must have been down to my exam technique.
I struggle so much with the written questions! And now I need to study the new syllabus with it being a Sep 24 resit.
Any tips would be much appreciated!
July 2, 2024 at 10:26 am #707726Hi All! I have successfully been able to solve Q1 for Option A after weeks of trying! It was so confusing but I will list the method below to help!
Step 1) Calculate the salaries. Complete the sum of:
Head of Accounts = salary is unchanged
FQ = (2 x FQ cost) * 1.10
PQ = (3 x PQ cost) * 1.10
AT = (4 x AT cost) *1.10
= Total all of the above to get the TOTAL SALARY COST.Step 2) Calculate 25% of the TOTAL SALARY COST.
Step 3) Sum the below for other costs. Note: these are unchanged so take the amounts as listed.
Amortisation + Accounting admin costs = TOTAL OTHER COSTS.Step 4) Total everything to get your final answer:
S1) TOTAL SALARY COST X
S2) TOTAL SALARY COST * 25% X
S) TOTAL OTHER COSTS X
TOTAL = ANSWERHope this helps you guys! You only need 50% to pass so if you use the above for Q1, leave Q2 blank if you cannot calculate and then Q3 is multiple choice so is straightforward.
