Allah is gracious. Have passed this first attempt, 73.
Thank u opentuition for the lectures and the discussion forums. The discussion forums were where I’d often go to when I had doubts in how a question was solved.
There is never going to be a substitute for hardwork. You just have to slug it out.Ofcourse you do need a lil luck.
My experience for the 6 papers that I have cleared up till has been to cover aspect of the syllabus(just like acca strongly states). Perfect as much as u can as u will NOT be able to to been 100% at everything. That which u cannot perfect have a fair idea of. Do the best u can and practise the question bank(I have always used Kaplan) over and over again.
I had started a new job and would often study late into the nyt as had to give extra tym to the new job. Though it helped that I have been working from home.
There is no substitute for hardwork. No shortcuts in ACCA is what I have realized.Absorb all the pressure as it will only make u stronger.
I wish everyone the best and hope everyone passes. And for those who didn’t, keep at it, u will eventually.
April 27, 2021 at 5:42 pm #619009Hello Everyone,
A bit late here given the results were on the 12th.
I passed with 65. My first attempt. I thank Allah for his grace.
My advise would be anyone attempting this paper would be to comb through the question bank(I used Kaplan) after having read the text by using the ACCA syllabus sheet as a guide. Going through the question bank helps u to identify past questions and be ready for them. DO NOT LEAVE OUT ANY QUESTION IN THE QUESTION BANK ESPECIALLY THE COMPREHENSIVE ONES.
Everyone has there way of attempting the exam but I guess what is universal is that when prepping for the exam while you cannot master everything you need to have an IDEA ABOUT EVERYTHING.
You cannot afford to leave everything to luck. Master as much as u can and have an idea about what u cannot master.
And please be aware of the IAS and FRSs.
It took me atleast 3 readings to understand the science and logic behind AA. There is no substitute for hardwork. You better believe that.
October 19, 2020 at 4:11 pm #590537Alhamdullilah cleared this exam with 73. Thank you Opentuition for the resources.
The videos were a tremendous help. My apologies to the tutor as I can’t remember the name but am grateful to his explanations on those videos.
Was very challenging prepping for this exam. Syllabus was vast and you need to memorize
a lot many rules. Tax is a language in itself and you need to be comfortable with the grammar of that language i.e. the rules. Started studying mid of May 2020. Individual tax and Capital Gains Tax were quite challenging given they had quite a many rules to deal with. The need to practice the Exam kit cannot be overemphasized. You need to go through the Exam kit multiple times and identify the tough questions and do them over and over again.
Missed out on 7 marks in the exam owing to bad time mgmt. Another 7 would be safe to say wasn’t attempted as had no idea what the answer was. The Key though is to cover every aspect of the syllabus. You may not become perfect with each and every topic but at least you’d have an idea.
April 15, 2019 at 5:08 am #512586Hello,
All praise be to Allah, passed in the first attempt. Scored 66. Prepared in 3.5 months. Initial 1.5 months used the Opentution lectures and notes. Then from Jan 2 started using the Kaplan exam kit. Went through all the Technical articles. And covered all the syllabus. Wouldn’t say I mastered all of it. Rather I perfected that which I could and understood as much I could that which I could not perfect. Yes, the syllabus is vast, and you need have some luck on your side. I hated the theory aspect and dreaded a 20-mark question. Luckily didn’t get that but nonetheless had gone through it.
But there is more to the story than that.
I wrote an exam as competitive as this after close to 15 years. I had initially decided in November 2018 to give 2 exams i.e. PM and TX in March 2019. However, within a week I realized that I wasn’t gonna pull that off. My best bet would have been to take it one at a time(at least for the first exam) since I was going to give such an exam after 15 years.
I started preparing from mid November and in the initial month and a half there were many times I felt stupid. I would question my intelligence. Returning to studies after so many years I was making the silliest of silly mistakes on rudimentary calculations. There was a day I remember I spent close to 4 hours just staring at the workings of an incremental costing question trying my best to fathom how it was it was actually solved.I am 32 now and a great many years ago I had quit studying chartered accountancy because it was tough. I never gave an exam, just quit in a month of joining. Later I tried pursuing CFA and though I did give an exam I did not give the exam it’s due preparation. I only sat the exam cause I had given a good amount of cash towards the fees and books.
As expected I flunked. I was least bothered. At least I had ‘tried’. An given that I was earning good enough moolah doing Tesco and Asda in England during the recession I couldn’t give a toss.
Later still when I was working full time as an Accountant in Saudi Arabia, a job which was quite comfortable, I decided to do pursue IMA’s CMA. For this one I did study hard. Real hard. But nearly 2 months before the exam I got a case ‘Exam Anxiety blues’ and quit. It didn’t hurt me much as I was going to get married soon and would starting a new phase in my life.
But I started to realize later that you needed to keep improving yourself. I had always taken the easy way out. Life don’t work like that. I am a father now. I started pursuing ACCA not with the intent of gaining a license that would help me rake in the money (wouldn’t mind that though ?). I want this to be a legacy for my children. I want to say to them in the future when I have completed ACCA(Allah willing) that ‘Look, I started it when I was 32 working a full time job under the burden of responsibilities. And I didn’t give up and completed it. If I can then you can too’
I used to come tired from work burnt out yet would find a way to study at least 2 hours every day. This was an exam of self-discovery. I found strength in myself when I thought I had none. I had quit so many times in the past but this time I promised my self that I wouldn’t quit and did not.
Am thankful to Allah that I cleared this one. Hope to clear the other papers too.
Advise to anyone reading this: Give it your best and don’t give up. If I can do it so can you.
March 7, 2019 at 1:09 pm #508302I wrote an exam after nearly 12 years. An exam that wasn’t a language exam. So this PM exam was like going back to school
I gave the paper based version and I attempted 92% of the paper. Had to leave the an 8 mark bit in the bed and mattress question.
Section A and B had a few theory questions that I was weak at. The through put question seemed challenging to me.
Just hope I can clear this exam. I pray and hope the same for everyone else here.
