Hi aftaab, I would say you definitely need a textbook and revision kit with OT . I used BPP but others may prefer Kaplan. I never go through the textbook, I just use OT but use book as a reference doing questions or working on weaker areas . Practice questions are very important , as you say lectures very understandable but the context in which questions are asked can be tough.
April 16, 2019 at 6:09 pm #513130Hi aftaab1390
You don’t say what kind of effort you put in or if you found P5 difficult or disliked it , This might help people give advice. I have done both and whilst they are different P4 is equally as demanding with regards to preparation . P4 has more technical content.

I used budge numbers due to time pressure for EVA will I still get marks for something?I’m not an expert in marking but I am sure you’d get marks as choosing what to adjust & formula should gain marks . If it makes you feel better , I made similar error in a different ACCA exam ( using wrong set figures) and know by my results I didn’t lose that many marks. Time constraints are ridiculous in option papers .

I didn’t pass this exam for the second attempt. I got 43%. Am doing the retake in June, Does anyone have any advice for revision and exam tips in order to pass? Thanks.Dammy1,
I would advise doing alot of practice questions , especially Q1 so you are adept at putting everything together and finding your own procedure. The more questions you do, the more senarios you can deal with and your speed and technique will improve. P2 is extensive and takes time !
Layout and presentation of your workings is also important, so the corrector doesn’t have to look for marks. Even if you go wrong on some workings , if it is clear that you attempted correctly you will get marks .
I know its obvious, but the theory of the IFRSs is vital so you can discuss in the other questions. You need to back up what you say by direct reference to the IFRS that is applicable to each case.No quick away around that either!Don’t give up and the very best of luck.
January 4, 2017 at 8:56 am #364986HI Joy , did you get any information on this one ? I have also downloaded International but should be doing the UK version.
June 26, 2016 at 1:55 pm #324149I used BPP for both the text and revision book to support Open Tuition . The Revision kit is very good to cover all areas question wise and included alot of past questions ammended to suit current structure and lots of MCQs , the questions are segmented to match sequence of text book so makes it easy to split the course in segments.
I didn’t study the whole book nor did I intend to , I just used it as a reference text for practice questions / weak areas etc. It’s a big book but obviously covers everything!!
A work colleague has since advised that she finds the Kaplan text books better than BPP (not specifically for F8 but in general) as layout apparently easier and not as long winded as BPP so would be worth getting an opinion from someone who has used kaplan as I haven’t so far.April 19, 2016 at 3:16 pm #311724Hi Seana, I used BPP text and practice books available online from O mahoneys in Limerick .I did F6 Irish in December. I found it relevant and I am self study, only gripe would be not great to show comprehensive examples per segment so important to start practice questions early. Another thing to watch for is MCQ’s the real paper more difficult than the practice …just an opinion though.
October 20, 2015 at 6:02 pm #277896@ mike0943. I got 66% first attempt self study . Despite my own advice on timing strategy , I spent too long on an early question that I messed up initially and ran out of time so didn’t get to 3 MCQ s so lost 6% straight off and was under serious pressure answering last few so assume made couple of errors . Open Tuition lectures v good but designed to teach overall understanding of a segment from start to finish but practice questions feel like starting over so don’t leave that too late !!!!

I used Open Tuition and BPP revision kit. I would say practice questions half the battle . Everything I read said time would be a big factor to watch and it is , ensure you have a strategy including best use of 15 mins reading time . Theory just as important as calculations on this one ! Also questions themselves are lengthy in text so take time to break them down , a minor piece of information amidst all that text can be vital . In relation to answers, I followed BPP the most , but I think when listing reasons just keep reasonably short, to the point and very often required to reference to case study in question . Also as someone else mentioned, be a harsh marker !! The best of luck !
September 22, 2015 at 7:10 pm #272820Has anyone done a revision course or classed for F6 IRL, looked at DBS, Griffith College and First Intuition.. If anyone knows which is better for Tax?
September 21, 2015 at 9:46 pm #272689Hi Dick, I didn’t find any online resources and looked hard enough to be honest . I have signed up to an intensive 3 day revision course for end of October ( over 20 hours in three days ) and beginning study from a book this week ! It’s a chance but the revision course is end of October so will have time between then and exam . I don’t know anyone to get advice from either as no one I know is self study so kind of winging it a bit ….hope I’m not regretting the plan by December!

May 15, 2015 at 9:08 am #246079Thanks Mike for the rapid response.
Can I just clarify then that if I chose Global that I won’t have the full set of online lectures from Open Tuition?
I am based in Ireland but opted to this via CBE which means I can only do the English or Global variant so just wondering if there is a huge difference between them . The only reason I selected Global was that I am not based in UK.Regards,
Maria
May 14, 2015 at 6:58 pm #245998Hi , Can I please ask some advice , I am beginning the F4 global and the Open Tuition notes don’t seem to be supported fully by online lectures ( about half overlap with the English version) Are the notes alone sufficient for the CBE?
Thanks
May 14, 2015 at 6:54 pm #245996Hi,
I am starting f4 global, has anyone done this exam as it seems that the Open Tuition doesn’t cover the whole course on online lectures ? Any advice welcome?
