The thing about throughput questions or question like goden bank acoounts is that if you can use excel to calculate (Section C) it will be much easier for minutes/hour calculation, but once you have to calculate on calculator, it is very difficult as just one minor mistake, you take everything starting again, and if you note down on the scrap paper, it will take a lot of time for the 2 mark question.
I think if we are not allowed to have an physicals scrap paper to note, ACCA need to think again the way they put the 2mark questons, it should be concentrated on the way the students undertand about the methodology/topic, rather than the complication of the numbers.
I fully know the steps to do the throughput question, but It takes a lot of my time to convert back and fort and remember the long numbers.. and when I come very closed to the result, I found I missing one 0, then I started again.
same for mixed variances, it should test the students on the steps to calculate (to proves that you understand the concept of variance) by giving the rounding numbers, not with very odd numbers as just with only the calculator, I doubt even the examiners can do all those complicated things within 5 minutes.
The exam should be hard and require students to put their effort to study, but should not be tricky in terms of numbers itself, as it is for nothing and unfair. We need to raise this in our survey.December 8, 2021 at 7:13 pm #643256ME!! I got the same! π The 1.4 PED = 560
December 8, 2021 at 7:02 pm #643245My god, somebody please tell me what’s wrong with total mix and the Bank’s golden open account and other CVP part. I was extremely confident as all my tests regarding variance and CVP normally took less then 2 minutes to come to results.. but I did calculate 5 times, and can’t get the answer, so have to do the best guess.. So disappointed. Section B is too hard compared to short time assigned. It need complicated calculation, especially the throughput. Same for few other calculcation, why I cant get to any answer, and dont know where I am wrong till now.
By the way, what is the golden open account? is there any tricks there? how you can calculate “wtf” complicated scenario for 3.5 minutes for 2 score?

November 30, 2021 at 1:52 pm #642091Thank you very much sir,
I have watched all your lectures, always find easy to understand, but related to variance, especially the yield, when I work on actual questions, I got confuses as different text books have different approaches, and sometime different answers as in this case.
I hope that the examiners will take the result as long as it follows the methodology.Thank you very much again for all your wonderful lectures and efforts to help us. π

June 8, 2021 at 8:10 pm #623991Sorry, I don’t get it, in your video, the basic EPS example, for bonus issue, there is no time fraction as it is free so we don’t need to care when it is issued.. so why you multiple with fraction 11/12 here?
Thank you very much
May 18, 2021 at 10:39 pm #620988Dear Sir,
Thank you very much for your response, this is what different between those 2: I just realized that there is one sentence added for 2021 “The customer gains control of the asset as each stage of the tunnel is completed.”
Can you help to advise that makes the 2 answers different?2021:
Bridgenorth Co undertaken a 5 million contract to repair a railway tunnel. The contract was signed on 1 January 2008 and the work is expected to take three years. This is a contract in which performance obligations are satisfied overtime and progress in satyisfying performance obligation is to be measured according to % of work completed as certified by a surveyor. The customer gains control of the asset as each stage of the tunnel is completed. B Co has an enforceable right to payment for performance completed to dateAt 31 Dec 2008 and 2009, the details of the contracts were as folllow:

Question: Profit recognized for year ended 31 Dec 2008
May 15, 2021 at 5:20 pm #620684Hi, thank you very much… I am also crazy about this… this is very helpful.
I just post few minutes ago also on how to calculate the profit for obligation satisfied overtime:
Few questions calculate the profit as direct method (percentage of revenue – cost to date/inccured in period), while many others calculate as proportion (percentage of revenue – percentage of (cost to date + estimate cost to completion).I am so confused. π
